Great vid. Just watched you Iguanadon video, and now this one. Two of my favorite dinos. Definitely subbing, and looking forward to checking out the rest 😊

Thank you! Might wait a bit on Carnotaurus, may need to let the fire settle after the Dinosaur debacle.

Baryonyx is one of the notorious fish-eaters of all time. It is a member of the Spinosaurid family, which includes the Spinosaurus, and the dinosaur that we discussed before, Suchomimus. It lived in England about 125 million years ago during the Early Cretaceous period. It was estimated about 7.6 to 9 meters long (25 to 29 feet) and around 2.3 meters (7.5 feet) tall at the hip. It probably weighed in the region of 1-2 tons, but analysis of the bones suggests that the only known specimen was not even fully grown. It had a long, low, and narrow snout, which has been compared to that of a gharial. The tip of the snout expanded to the sides in the shape of a rosette. Behind this, the upper jaw had a notch which fitted into the lower jaw (which curved upwards in the same area). It had a triangular crest on the top of its nasal bones. It also had a large number of finely serrated, conical teeth, with the largest teeth in front. The neck formed an S-shape, and the neural spines of its dorsal vertebrae increased in height from front to back. One elongated neural spine indicates it may have had a hump or ridge along the centre of its back. It had robust forelimbs, with robust, eponymous first-finger claws measuring about 31 centimetres (12 inches) long. As a piscivore, a fish-eating carnivore, it probably used these enlarged claws to catch fish, but its long crocodile-like snout and croc-like teeth were its main weapon when it comes to that. As confirmation, a number of scales and bones from the fish, Lepidotes, were also discovered in the body cavity; However, the bones of a juvenile Iguanodon, a plant-eating dinosaur, were also found in direct association with the Baryonyx skeleton and stomach contents. A definitive proof, that Spinosaurs, like Baryonyx, wouldn't have only gone after fish. Even more fossil evidence shows the Portuguese/Iberian Baryonyx fossils are, also, found directly associated with Iguanodon teeth, and listed with other such associations as support for opportunistic feeding behaviour in Spinosaurs. It was one of the biggest carnivores of its habitat; its only competitor was the Neovenator; a relative of Allosaurus. Thought not depicted as a truly semiaquatic theropod, a 2022 study presented that it had the physical features fit for such an animal. It is speculated that Baryonyx would sit on a riverbank, resting on its powerful front legs, and then sweep fish from the river with its powerful striking claw. This is similar to the modern grizzly bear. The long but low stance and angled head support this theory. Baryonyx most likely lived in forests with rivers and lakes, as well as open fields while hunting for prey. It would’ve lived alongside other dinosaurs, such as the sauropod, Ornithopsis, the ornithopods, Iguanodon and Hypsilophodon, the nodosaurid ankylosaur, Polacanthus, and the other theropods, Eotyrannus and Neovenator. It is famously known from the movie, Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs (2009), and its video game, which I’m a champion at, as the character/main antagonist, Rudy, and the Jurassic movie, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018), where it makes its first-ever appearance in the franchise. It also appeared in the anime series, Dinosaur King, as Marlin, as well as Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous, as the triplet siblings, Grim, Limbo and Chaos. It has appeared in a variety of the Jurassic Movies’ video games, though being cut from one, and also Ark: Survival Evolved, The Isle and Path of Titans. And it will soon appear in Prehistoric Kingdom. Anyway, I believe that this is also one of the dinosaurs that I requested, but that’s okay.

Apologies for missing that, I try to keep dedications to one and lean towards those who haven't been mentioned before. It isn't to pick favorites, but hearing your name in a shout out is always fun, so want to spread the love in a way! Anyways, thanks for your expertise, always interesting to read!

Media Note: Baronyx also made an appearance in the 13th sequel of Don Bluth's The Land Before Time, serving as the main antagonist where it hunts in a pack. Other appearances would obviously be The Isle, as an attraction built by Dinamation, and notably (don't see why you wouldn't mention this being an obvious a debut to its career) _The Lost World Jurassic Park _for the PlayStation.

There isn't really an order to how media is mentioned. I don't cover everything they've ever been in (for some it isn't really possible) and not necessarily there first or most recent. I try to hit at least one from some major media (video games, movies, etc.) as well as some of there more prominent roles (Jurassic Park franchise, Walking with Dinosaurs, etc.) or if it's just funny to mention (Denver the Last Dinosaur). But thanks for pointing these out, always appreciate your guys' contributions!

Ya know, I find it wild how accurate Ark is with the Dinosaurs. They did their research. You said Baryonyx lived peacefully with herbivores such as Iguanodons, in Ark, it does the same. You said Baryonyx was a fish eater, in Ark, it does the same. For the longest time, i thought Rudy was a spino, but i saw a youtube short like...last week that said he was a Baryonyx, and I was curious why I got it confused. Him being part of the spino family makes sense 😂 By the way, you had me laughing "Bary much more" 😂

Glad you enjoyed! I wish I could like Ark more, it's like my dream game in theory. A dinosaur open world survival game. But I am just not a fan of how complex crafting, progression, and taming is. But I love hearing you guys talk about it, maybe I'll give it another chance some day!

Interesting pronounciation but Surrey rhymes with hurry. On your map you circled most of Great Britain but called it England. Be prepared for dislikes from angry Scott's and Welsh😀
