This is a mythological drama. It’s pure fiction based on realistic themes, comparable to works of Shakespeare. The son is fighting his gay desires. LGBTQ community exists in Pakistan whether you want to admit it or not. Premarital sex exists in Pakistan whether you want to admit it or not. Pretending it doesn’t exist won’t make it go away. Islam is nowhere mentioned here. Yes, it’s a Pakistani audience where majority are Muslim. But these characters are all mythical and fictional creatures. No, it’s not a family drama and no, it’s not meant for children to watch. Simple as that. It’s targeted towards an adult artistic audience who understand mythical literature and abstract metaphors. Most people in Pakistan don’t fall in that audience unfortunately they would rather watch the stereotypical second wife or saas bahu bullshit. Stay within your bubble and don’t watch this drama if you’re going to take it literally or personally. People in Pakistan would rather live their double life, be gay in secret and have a wife for the world to see with children. This is shining light on taboo subjects we don’t dare to ever utter.

Sherezaad is the daughter of Mahtaab and Jafar, that much is proven. However, she was born in the 'other' world, not the one in which Jafar lives. Mahtab returned her after 30 years, which is why Jafar is almost her father's age. The Shaman was the one who took her in and gave her to Jafar. Also, the stones the souls are carrying on the back get chipped when they do a good deed. For instance, the girl and the boy at the restaurant were not talking to each other. Jaffar's wives, unconsciously, nudged them to talk to each other; that's why the rock chipped. So, maybe, if they do enough good deeds, their stones will be completely gone, and they will pass on to the other world. Also, this is The Land of Nowhere. Meaning, nothing normal happens here. It's not Pakistan, Islam, and as far as I believe, the characters aren't even Muslim. That said, I am not enjoying Saifullah's storyline. Asim Abbas always believes that he has a quota to fill. He did that in Churails as well. Showing these characters exist isn't bad. They do. But giving them a love story is completely wrong, no matter which angle you look at it. Yes, we see them in international shows, but they're not catered toward the Pakistani audience. This was, and Asim should've been careful.

saifullah's character is best of them all. his sexuality have become a huge source of pain for him all his life, his insecurities grew because of it and with him murdering his own mother. Why do we have to just be offensive about everything. Asim haven't shown a single inapporpriate thing. He has just shown struggle of a man trying not to act on his desires. Pakistani's love to close their eyes to reality but if you look around you will surely find an example of someone like Saifullah.
@s.s.m99362 ай бұрын
Even though I agree homosexuality angle wasn't needed yet I feel this was the best way to showcase the internal turmoil of Saif's character. His desire for other men can be understood through the lenses of his deprivation and logging for his father's love. The guilt of having a secret this bad gives reason to his other behaviour too. He indeed the most interesting and complex character of the play.

What I don't understand about people in the comment section is this obsession with Netflix. Why should Netflix pick up "Barzakh" when its already on an OTT platform called "Zee5" which had 48.11 million paid users and is available in 190+ countries. It's already on an OTT why do you want it to go on another OTT? Free episodes on KZbin are hurting this much so you wanna watch by paying subscription fees.

Connections I was able to make from this episode: As seen in the last episode Jaffer was fighting with his first wife saying “kamyabi hai uskay pas bulandi hai - tumaray aam say pariron say kahi zada” which justifies why she was in the bath tub eating mangoes. Numberdar’s wife has also lost her daughter and her husband knows about it too - i believe he was involved in her demise to chaman. The people who gathered at the nunberdars wife’s house are planning to meet with their daughters when Jaffer goes to unite with Mahtab. Jaffer wanted to go to that meeting as well but saifullah stops him - not sure why and his suitcase carries “mehtabs duppata”. Also, all the souls with stones are stuck in this world and their rocks will break off if they commit good deeds - as shown in this episode where the wives help the couple and a piece of the rock breaks off. The tub scene was painted in the last episode by the strange lady and it was shown in the episode - the lady paints guilt. In the end, the girl Leena (who is fawad khan’s wife she enters Mehtab Mahal and sits with her mother in law. Notice all three ladies have white fingers indicating they were murdered (lack of oxygen flow in the body)

And most people find recognition and comfort in this - for, they are not then required to invoke their sense of imagination (or lack of it). That Art is truly a re-creation of an artist's outlook of life, his/her emotional assessment of the world and existence, his/her agonies and ecstacies, crests and peaks, is something which is alien to the majority of people in this world. Pity !! The narrative, the picturisation and presentation in this serial is indeed top - notch. Play of characters is sublime. And performance? Too good. No words, really. Hats off !!

If it was on tv it would show a women being beaten for 10 episodes and a girl being married off living an unhappy life for 25 episodes to have the writer have her say at the end that she wants to be free. Here 3 episodes in we have gotten these messages and more.

Read carefully please! This series isn't promoting homosexuality , infact Address the true scenario of those ppl who define themselves that they are homosexual. By birth no one is homosexual. Its not in our religion islam , this thing not existed by nature.It depicts that saifullah has no childhood, only he saw pathetic miseries and traumas in his life, he hasn't evolved him self as a male or female or simple as a person, obviously he has a baggage of past that make his character like this, there is dialogue with aqa where aaqa said u couldn't find ur true love so he didn't know abt love. Neither did he do any sin with male. Drama tells us the consequences of a broken family that turned him into a person that doesn't know even by himself who he is ? Plus he did crime by killing her mother and his hands has proof.so he not either have hormonal feelings towards man and female both, he is full of pandora box with shattered soul ,on right time if counseling was done by both of his parents he wouldn't even 1% be turned like that; he would know that its wrong to even think like this. In episode 3 its clearly sees that Saifullah denied the kiss of that italian guy and stood up and surrounded himself again in the loop of his past burden or baggage he is just misguided soul nothing else not homosexual yes italian guy may be (he is not muslim) but saifullah just not know the right path ,he is not confident like his sis sherzad or brother (fawad) he is prison of his own crime rest both aren't show this way because they never committed any crime. Pls like if anyone understands my point of view

I got your pov but the main problem is promoting it or normalizing it i know many people struggle with this but the thing is that they're not showing how to tackle this rather making us sympathize for him which is okay if for the sake of how it happens but they are showing for the sake that people start accepting this as I know teg director's past projects he just wanted to make people accept this is the thing and you had to accept this not the other way that yes this is the thing but you had to change your thoughts by therapy, religious practice etc....... Secondly this is not natural but made from the baggage of trauma or society or cultural thing

I believe that in episode 3 the director convinced us if even 1% he is driven towards THAT side due to childhood trauma and the things he encountered in the past still he is strong enough to hold himself doing any sin and remain confused with his own identity...

The drama Barzukh presents a compelling storyline with impressive acting and production. However, it has sparked controversy due to its depiction of themes and scenes that are often considered taboo in Pakistani and Muslim society. These include scenes involving parental intimacy, children's awareness of their surroundings, LGBTQ themes, and alcohol consumption. These elements have made some viewers uncomfortable and led to disapproval. Nevertheless, some argue that the inclusion of such themes is crucial for sparking important conversations and debates within society. The Quran mentions various evils, and by addressing these issues openly, the drama encourages viewers to confront and understand them rather than ignore their existence. This bold approach may be necessary to reflect the complexities of contemporary society and foster a more nuanced understanding. Overall, "Berzukh" tackles a significant and beautiful topic about the afterlife, where souls await with the burdens they carried in life. This narrative captures the essence of accountability and the moral struggles faced by individuals, making it a much-needed discussion in today's context. This drama serves as a mirror to societal issues, blending good and evil, and challenging viewers to develop a more informed perspective on these sensitive topics.

What a beautiful narration…. one by one each character unfolding. The grey shades are so well brought out. Waiting for Episode 3 today. Actors in these characters are also making it look so real, that’s why it’s so intriguing.

Brilliant episode 👏 👌 👍. The cinematography of this series is at another level. I'm completely soaked in the world of Barzakh. This series will not leave you alone. It will stay with you... You definitely need 100 percent attention to notice every detail in every frame. Thanks to Asim Abbasi to pull this off ❤ One request to Pakistani audience... PLEASE DO NOT WATCH THIS SERIES IF YOU FEEL OFFENDED. JUST SKIP!!! AND DON'T THROW GARBAGE IN COMMENTS SECTION. Let the well evolved international audience watch this masterpiece in peace ✌.

So many universes & realms of art; philosophy; human emotion; nature; spirituality; mystery; fantasy & that of the unknown explored in this one project alone. Spectacular!!!! It's like I'm watching a novel & just devouring it even if there are things/areas that I'm still not completely sure of/have fully understood. If this is what we can create --- imagine what WONDERS are we capable of!! Some scenes make me pause & reflect as to what did he/she just say, what does this actually mean in other contexts/other ways too & so forth... It's created for intelligent & thinking audiences! If they'd not create intelligent content, then we too do not have the right to continue crying over our audiences 'settling' for the typical or insensitive story-telling that glorifies women being slapped/wronged/violated --- the list goes on... I'm SO spell-bounded by Sanam's performance & that of Fawad Khan (NAPA), Fawad Afzal Khan having chosen this project only proves him as a justifiably selfish, rather tasteful actor & artist even if the other Fawad has overrided him in their collective scenes or in the story in general. Take a bow, Asim Abbasi!!! 👏🙌💪👌💝♾

I don't understand why people are making such a fuss about nothing! Doesn't homosexuality exist in our society? Just visit any other university in Pakistan and you'll observe that many guys exhibit homosexual traits these days. However, due to social and religious pressures, they often refrain from expressing themselves openly. Moreover, we live in the era of Netflix and Amazon Prime, where access to diverse content is just a click away, making it impossible to control what people watch.

han ji .. infact Islamic University Islamabad k girls hostel mein girls ko sath bed share krny py ban laga tha .. due to homosexuality.. and at the same university boy's hostel ..the boys raped a food delivery boy .. Aur yeh cases new nhe hai blky kuch saal pehle k hain. haqeeqat sy munh phairnay sy haqeeqat badal nahi jati hai.

Fr people are so annoying, these things need to be talked about. A lot of homosexual guys are pressured by family to marry women. It’s no good for either side.
