Depends on situation. U don't want your 7 year old child join karate combat to fight till the other forfeit or lose out most points. Would u willing to let your 7 year old child to get beaten until the times is up. To me i am not willing to see that. Let him train the basics & self control and until they reach age of majority (18) then they can join karate combat.

@@enzocarneiro6748 yes true but most of the children came from poverty & competing at early age help them to get money. Harsh lifestyle to some of the Thais there. But if u go to the city, it's hardly to find 7 years old children compete in muay thai cuz they have better living condition.

I remember seeing Cobra Kai and thinking "woah this is brutal even though it's watered down" turns out those were the 80s rules. They even mention it in the show that this is different fron Olympic Karate. Nice to see Karate Combat is stepping it up even from the 80s

I was a black belt at 22 and very serious about it. While in the Marines in Okinawa I got in a fight on that street (can’t remember the name) where all the bars for Americans were. I punched the guy in the throat with what we called a back two knuckle and I stopped. I guess it was a combination of the point fighting mentality and the fact that I didn’t want to actually try and kill him. He then broke my nose. Thinking about it later, I realized I stopped because that’s what point sparring puts in your head.

The best fighters in karate combat are Sportive karate competitors (or point karate, as you prefer) and this is a fact. They use to win against kyokushin fighters and mma fighters because they have skills and mindsets that others don’t have.

karate with these rules will look like kickboxing or standing mma after a certain time. it has to do with optimal movement sequences. martial arts adapts to the rules in which fighting takes place. if blows to the head are allowed in tkd, less turning techniques will be trained and after a little time it will also look like kickboxing.

Depends on the school. I did Tae Kwon Do as a kid. It helped me as I got in mma with side kick, turn around hook kick and turn around sidekick. When we used to practice, we would hit pretty hard. I came out with damaged eyes. Just depends on the school. Our school there were actually good solid kickers, some now like me have started training in mma. However yes, it was limited. I started going to a boxing gym and also a mma gym. Took forever to learn how to property punch.
