Video description / background:
My base dries out much quicker in very cold temperatures. Why is that? Sharp snow crystals act very aggressively, almost like sandpaper against your base. So applying the right wax is very important!

I've been addressing this issue for years. So glad to hear you bring it up! I usually just apply a harder wax on my edges(grey line not as thin as yours😉) I'm in Oregon & we have snow coming...finally!My new 162W Tree Surfer is ready for its 1st runs🍻🏂

THANK YOU! I was dealing with this a few weeks ago when it was super cold in Vermont. Everyone said it was typical but wearing through wax this fast was something I had never experienced. People gave me the tip to use harder wax on my edges and I might scrape it when it's slightly warm. I normally wait until the next day to scrape. Last week I waxed a brand new board with cold temp wax and rushed my scrape job. My board was super sticky and catchy. Luckily I brought my scraper and brushes with me to the mountain. I've noticed that when the snow hits about 5f (-15 C) it's so abrasive and sounds like squeaky foam.

Quick question, what happens if we use cold/hard wax on regular weather?? I have one bar that came with a kit that says is for cold temparatures, weather I hardly face in the french alps and pirineos, but at some point I might have to use it...

@@elflashgordon that is a very good question. If anything it might not repel water as well as softer wax?!?! More moisture content in warmer snow.... But really, I don't know!

I noticed this on my ride deep fake after the last week of temps not going above -6c for high. Cold days i typically use cold wax on my edges and all temp wax in the center and melt it all in. On cold days the first 3cm inside the edge starts turning white after a day of 7,500+ meters of vertical.
@benjaminsimoens8890
@benjaminsimoens8890 9 күн бұрын
does it turn white with the cold wax on the edges after 7500m? i have some cold blue wax in europe that will last for days in cold weather., it's called Vola Blue MX race wax. 18-20€ for a pound/500g. It does not survive well indoor but it's one of the kings in outdoor cold weather. iron temp 125C

@benjaminsimoens8890 yes with the cold wax on the edges it starts to turn white. I use, züm cold (-10c to -30c snow temp) 500g. Ill look in to the wax you mentioned.

Hola Lars, dealing mostly with artificial snow this season, what's your take on waxes? I want to combine cold temp wax rubbed on cold , plus an extra layer of all temp applied with the iron. Do you think cold temp harder wax will help/last better? Thnx! 🙏🏂⚡️👋

thx Lars interesting as always! Are sintered base more prone to base burn than extruded? I'm fed up with indoor snow, it's like a cheese grater, no wax, even the blue super hard ones will hold more than 5 slopes..

Hey Lars, thanks for this info! Related question: what are your thoughts on storage wax? I live in Perth Australia where we typically have heat as a problem during summer (e.g. yesterday was 40°C!). I store my boards indoors but yesterday it was still over 30 inside my place.
@Justaride-Snowboard-Channel
@Justaride-Snowboard-Channel 9 күн бұрын
Great question! Storage wax should be applied to protect the base from drying out and from attracting dirt. At your temps it might get soft and messy. What you can try is apply cold temp wax, which is harder and requires higher temperatures to melt. There's no problem with that for the board.
@thisisscotts
@thisisscotts 9 күн бұрын
@Justaride-Snowboard-Channel ok thanks, that makes sense. Have you had experience with boards drying out? I imagine that would make them more brittle, but I'm curious as to how much a dry board causes issues.
@Justaride-Snowboard-Channel
@Justaride-Snowboard-Channel 9 күн бұрын
@ there nothing going brittle and it’s not ‘the whole board’. It’s just the base, and it gets all grey and looks sad. I’m not even sure it causes actual damage. But it sure can’t be good. So I always apply storage wax.
@derscarf3803

So thats what that was, had it on my previous board, wasnt waxing it much and no storage wax, it only had that base burn, with my new board after 100km in outdoor snow i have no marks, i am carving it quite well and close to managing to lay down fully on the snow, so i guess thats mich more of a intoor snow type of thing (the guys that were waxing my board said thta depending on how much you ride the stuff that they put on lasts for a month of good riding in that snow (temps were -20--6 and the base was i think up to -20 and the wax -5--25C )
