Base Spotlight: West Point Bridge

Hopefully I'm going to make a bunch of these. I think the shorts format might be a good way to just add to a list of interesting base suggestions over time.

Given how rare propane often is, it’s easier to simply tow the car wrecks away with your car! I’ve been wanting to set up a bandit base here on a PvP multiplayer server to mess with anyone trying to head to and from Louisville, it sounds like a lot of fun

You're probably right. In the late game propane is becoming probably the single resource that I am keeping an eye on as it dwindles.

Which is why I would use propane tank mod that allow me to refill the tank on gas station so I can do this for longer 😂 I swear making a single wall and it empty feel meh as hell

My friends and I made our first ever mega-base there. Left lane was gated both ways to allow for driving through while the right lane for trailer parking. We had a massive garage for repairs on the bottom story which came in handy after long trips. We only ever had a handful of zombies come because with our gas station trips we consistently lured them deeper into town. Definitely worth the effort and thanks for the trip down memory lane!

I would agree, largely because it essentially forces you to be a pedestrian, which really limits things.

@@KyleMiddleton7 you could always just chop down the trees, and make a wood road to the asphalt road. That's what I did in my base which is in the abandoned factory to the south west of riverside.

One little noise and your base at night is swarmed with fast sprinters that scream when they spot you setting off a chain reaction. Trust me living in the middle of nowhere seems really nice when playing that type of style.

Oh I loved that spot! I didn't build on the bridge for fear of how finicky they used to be with vehicles, but I set up on the West point side, right on the rails.

I think you can wiggle the exact center of the base around a bit, just so long as you maintain good road access. No one wants to lug armfuls of loot through the woods over and over after bringing back a car full of stuff.

Me and my friends based there one time and it makes a great base location but the base is pretty close to West Point so you might get several groups of zombies attacking the base

Yeah its infested with Z's on my playthrough, that whole highway is, I did a burn about a 100 metres North and killed hundreds, barely made a dent in the population.

I've started building a base on this bridge because of this video, it's the longest I've survived so far and I'm so proud of it so far, it's been my most fun play though thus far... I'd also never built a base from scratch before so building here allows me to try that too :) thanks for the idea!

Me and my friends set up the base on the peninsula once. One of us actually cut almost the whole forest there, built a large river to river log fence with a box/small fence combination fortification, garage for at least 5 vehicles and a big two floor mansion. We were making some small resources runs and were generally fine until the hosr PC died

As someone who uses the frigate from The Frigate mod as a base, this bridge is a common sight right next to the ship. The car pileup is useful for gaining lots of items in the early game that you wouldn't get on the ship.

This is set in the USofA. So the bridge will collapse due to lack of maintenance and/or low bid contractor when building the bridge 50 years ago. So GL with that base

I built one of our bases on the south side of the river, just west of the bridge in the clearing there. Fantastic location with West Point within walking distance and Louisville just a short drive away.

I currently have an uparnored tractor trailer absolutely slap full of weapons and ammo I'm driving around, honking the horn, and grabbing one of the hundred or so weapons and thousands of rounds of ammo. Clearing and moving on. I'm actually close to the bridge, just cleared the mentioned gas station. I'll head that way today.

Honestly the wood line to the north of the bridge is better. Horde migrations regularly pass it, you have easy road access, tree removal provides the raw materials, and there’s only one direction to be concerned with defending.

It's a damn fine choice, to be sure. I just really value good open sight lines. I've been playing with sprinters too much, and sprinters and trees are a nasty combo. That sort of thinking does bias me away from woodland bases.

Peninsula is still better. Zombies have habit of traveling along road. So you will be getting visitors there on random basis. While on the peninsula, if you stick few dozens of tiles away from the road, you are clear of any natural zombie path while still having all the advantages of the bridge. Driving that short distance on dirt is absolutely worth the price. And you can always just build drive-way with all the trees that you will have around you for cutting down

Honestly, I just might do this. Currently stuck there. No real place cleared to base at. Did a new run to test some mods, along with a mod that lets me spawn in the prison and made a mad dash out of rosewood, through mauldruh, and into westpoint. WP is flooded, and I couldn't break into the gun store. Crashed my car at the bridge and made it to the river before the 0% engine caught up with me. Had yo scurry around WP to get a car and almost lost to a neck scratch. Currently sitting in my new car, I found contemplating how to geg a sledge hammer.

I learned a lot of zombie games specially state of decay the juggernaut edition which some bridge has a HUGE base in there and it can also has a trade also i would recommend if you want bigger stations

You don't have to destroy the burned cars, you can also attach them to your vehicule and move them on the sides of the road or on the grass

Setting up at the end of the peninsula is my retirement home location. You'll almost never see a zombie. You have access to a huge swathe of riverbank that will never run out of fishing abundance. Access to unlimited water, enough nearby woods to build a mansion, plenty of forage, and trapping. It's perfect. Build a home, drive out to the world and scavenge some furniture, appliances, carpets, windows, power it, decorate it, and you're good to retire. Having a freezer stocked full of fish fillets is peace of mind like no other 😌 The only problem is you're going to get fat 🤣

As much as I love the idea, it’s a terrible plan. I know this is a video game, so it works well. But irl? That’s a death sentence. Bridges have load capacities and that gets weaker when going years without maintenance. Building a huge house is a good way to have that corroded steel fail sending you, and your hopes and dreams plunging into the river below. It might be fine, but would you risk it?
