80's on up so much of it out there it's ridiculous. I have numerous Ron Santo cards which I was a big fan growing up, that I have of him in psa 8's. Didn't see any of them in the video.

Way more "stuff" than there are collectors/buyers. Love the hobby, I've been a collector since 1980, but sometimes I just shake my head at just how much is out there. I fear that someday so much of it will be virtually worthless. Supply will exceed demand by far within the next 30 years. Go to most card shows and 75% of the people there are over 40. I hope I am wrong, but sports cards to most kids are not what they used to be. I remember saving money for months to buy a Montana rookie. Still have that card 3 and a half decades later.

Yeah, the prices are out of control. I basically only buy high grade hof'ers and future hof'ers now. occasionally I'll prospect with new cards, but only really solid players like Trout, Judge, Betts etc. The hobby has become ALL about money, and anyone who says otherwise is not being totally honest. I admit most of what I buy is because I like it, but we all are looking at resale down the line for most of what we buy. I love seeing kids at the shows, I take my 12 year old son and his friends, but there just aren't that many kids into it anymore, and you are absolutely right it's the cost to collect good stuff, and just a decline in interest.

If 25% are under 40 then that's not bad. I was hoping there would be footage of the show when it was more crowded to get a better idea of the crowd.
@tewksburydriver86246 жыл бұрын
888strummer, It was more like 10% actually, which isn't good for the hobby.

I watched other videos of the nationals in Cleveland and you're wrong. There were MANY kids there with their parents and there were also many adults who looked to be under 40. I agree the majority are white guys over 45 or 50 but it was encouraging to see many kids there too. I do agree with you though that the hobby needs more young collectors

888strummer, I was talking about card shows in general, of which I attend dozens a year, so I am not wrong.

ok out of curiosity, how many old school collectors out there still smell their vintage (1980 and older) baseball cards? that distinct cardboard smell...lmao

This is NOT the time to be buying cards; it's the time to be selling cards while the economy is still fairly robust. Watch what happens to card and memorabilia prices in the future when the economy turns south. Prices will plummet and if you like collecting, that is when to buy. Always sell into strength and buy on weakness.
