So I’m a 13 year old starting catcher I like going on 1 knee while nobody’s on base but if there’s 2 strikes I go in what most people primary stance and I like being a lot taller when someone on base like I get wide and tall

Yes, always use knee savers. The longer you play catcher, the worse it is for your knees.

Trust me, Use knee savers!!!!! Knee savers weren’t around when I was younger and I wish they were. My knees are shot from catching !

Hello, I’m 14 and have been playing baseball for a while. But i’m just getting into catching right now. For my primary stance I’m able to get my right heel on the ground but i have the left leg a little to the front and on the ball of my foot. Is that ok? or should I try to get both heels on the ground? And if I should, what are some good tips/stretches that will help me get both heels on the ground? Thank you 🙏

As long as you’re able to get low and receive comfortably it is not a huge deal if both heels aren’t down. There are plenty of catchers that receive great and get low without the heels being down all the way. This is just a baseline we try to get our younger guys to work on to help them be conscious about mobility and how it can help them.

If you have a bad knee find a new position. Playing catcher is only going to make it worse.

With no one on base there’s nothing lazy about trying to get lower to have a better opportunity to catch the low pitch for a strike. A lot of catchers in the mlb are working down into a one knee stance as well to get even lower and more comfortable receiving with no runners on base.
