Clemens was so sick in Toronto. I still don't understand why he went there when the Yankees matched Toronto's offer and the hometown Astros made a decent offer as well. A weird, insanely dominant two year stop north of the border for Clemens. Clemens personally claims the last year in Boston and the two Toronto years was the best stretch of his career bc he still had a high velocity fastball and by then perfected the splitter.

Today is the *21* year anniversary of when this episode aired on TV. 🤓 EDIT- 3:40 P.M.: *finishes video 27 minutes later* This was the third retro episode of Baseball Tonight that I watched. The first two were the May 30, 1996 and May 27, 2000 episodes.

Wow Angel Hernandez was awful even back then..

The Atlanta heat and humidity scrambles umpires' brains. Jerry Meals fucked up just like Angel 13 years later.

18:57 Hey OP - are you from Cleveland? Looks like this recording is from a feed out of the Cleveland OH area, my home town! I know exactly where those Mullinax Ford locations were!! The voice over for those commercials was Jim Mueller, long-time voice of the Browns in the 70s and early 80s, who just passed away a couple weeks ago. Man this actually makes me sad to watch this. Because it's when both ESPN and Major League Baseball were awesome. My Cleveland INDIANS were beasts and the league knew how to promote their stars. Not only did I watch every second of every Indians game, I loved watching baseball in general and always caught Baseball Tonight before bed. MLB and ESPN both suck today. Both are almost completely unwatchable. ESPN IS unwatchable. Politics ruin everything.

I thought that call in the Mets-Braves game was terrible, and no surprise, it's Angel Hernandez. If I told anyone that 25 years later that Angel would still be on the field being an absolutely horrible umpire and generally awful human being, nobody would believe me probably. 😆
