For anyone wondering about durability, my son (14u) has had this bat since Rawlings fixed the end cap issue - about 10 months. He puts 200+ swings per week on it and it's been extremely durable. The sound is amazing and barreled balls fly. We got it as part of a warranty claim credit so I did not pay $500 for it. Unsure I would have at first, but he loves it and once it dies if he wants the same bat to replace it I'm likely OK with the price. 200 swings a week for almost a year and counting is high durability for the money to me. Also, definitely go with the double grip! He has huge hands and it felt much better with a second .5mm layer.

I wonder what influence Easton brings to this bat knowing they have the composite technology of the old Combat Maxum 1 piece. The sound is very similar and if you look back a few weeks ago when you swung the new Maxum Ultra with the Georgia Southern guys, you swung that bat pretty well. Interested to see a review / comparison of the Icon and new Maxum Ultra. I’ve never been a fan of Rawlings bats and with them ditching the Quatro it would seem they may be using Easton / Combat technology in these new Icon bats. - Love the videos….. Updated 3/28/23-- If you watch the Easton Maxum Ultra release from a few years ago, the product manager for Easton describes the Maxum Ultra having Seamless Composite Technology. In the Icon's release video from a few months ago the Rawlings Product Manager describes the composite technology the same -- "Seamless Carbon Technology Barrel". So, what we have is potentially a new Rawlings 2 piece "Combat / Easton" Maxum Bat with "Seamless Carbon Technology". It's my understanding this technology was somewhat proprietary to Combat.

I bought this bat a while before this video came out and I love it. The ball jumps off the bat and even if I get jammed, It goes far. I do agree with them when they say that the handle is too skinny and I am considering doing a double layer grip as well.

If you still have it and haven’t taped over the original grip, I would recommend getting a lizard skin taper with 1.8mm lizard skin tape

Guys, love the videos! This absolutely shocked me after how bad the Quatros have been. Its amazing that your top two bats literally came out of nowhere! Also, maybe it's time to adjust the scale. Right now a bat like the Goods is maxed out at a 23 because of its swing weight. But if a bat came around with the same sweet spot and power with a lighter swing weight it would get a higher score. But that doesn't necessarily make it a better bat because a bigger stronger player (who can afford to buy a new one after it telescopes) may still prefer the Goods. Maybe score bats based on their category. So you would have your top end-loaded bats, your top balanced bats, and your top one piece light swinging bats. You could swap out the swing weight score with feel/feedback. Because at the end of the day most people are not cross-shopping the Goods and the Cat X, so give them the comparison they need to help them choose the right bat for them. Just a thought.

My son demo’d this bat over the weekend at our local cages. He loved it. He was hitting lasers… He swings a composite bbcor now, coming from a voodoo one. He couldn’t put 😮the icon down. We go to return it and ask how much it is… 😮. So cool that you reviewed it and had the same experience. I’ll NEVER pay that much for a bat though. How dumb. Would you want to sell 1,000 bats for $500 or 5,000 bats for $350? I don’t get it.

My answer to the thin grip was to take it off and use regular bat tape to add a little thickness. I was able to re-wrap the original grip without any difficulty. It looks factory and has an amazing feel.

Given how it did against the Atlas today, it would smoke most composite BBCORs. But it's definitely not quite as endloaded as the XL1 or Meta Pwr. More like the Glowstick or Goods 1-pc weighting.
