Just one little suggestion if I may add... Because you're going deep into remote areas at times, and you hike alone, I was wondering if you'd ever considered carrying a satellite phone with you just in case you can't get reception where you're at, or a personal beacon locator for the just in case situations?? Anyway, I so enjoy your shows so much... And your meals that you cook look so delicious ... I'm truly amazed how you can have such a great meal outdoors while hiking and camping!! You sure change the face of outdoors camping experiences!! Thanks for sharing Chris!! God bless you always, and stay safe out there!! Really amazing Countryside out there! That site you had was super nice too! Used to have a Sawyer, that until I forgot about it & the temps dropped below freezing and yeah... Been using a CNOC filter system ever since though. Main reason is that the bladder bag is SUPER easy to fill unlike the Sawyer one. Totally agree on the rock formations, the make-up of the rock probably would not be safe to climb on at all. Great stuff & especially with Folgers in your Cup! ;)

Always pay attention to what the “ prey” herd animals are doing to keep safe; there is always, generally a mature doe on watch. They like my back garden, and the six pointers will actually relax lay their heads down and sleep while the doe keeps watch over the rest of the herd. Plus side is they fertilise my grass and beds during the winter; and keep my ivy trimmed, but once I plant my garden, the deer fencing goes up…

Hey Chris, really enjoy the videos. Few things about the filtering though. First, you were leaking dirty water from where the hose was coupled to the filter down into your water bottle. It shows up pretty clearly in the video. Second, as others have pointed out the syringe is for backflushing which is for forcing clean water back through the filter (front to back, the opposite of normal) to clear out the filter. Forcing dirty water through the filter in the normal direction is just filtering the water, not doing anything for the filter. Here's a video from Sawyer kzbin.info/www/bejne/ony6gp2ippKoj6M Stay safe out there!
@basecampchris4 жыл бұрын
Yes - good catch...planning an update on the Sawyer to clarify this. Thanks.
@marment45062 жыл бұрын
Yes, i saw that leak in the video too. I guess Chris didn't tighten connection enough or you might need a little Teflon tape to seal the threads.
@roseyannette20302 жыл бұрын
Okay, I went searching to see if this filtering system eliminates ALL the bad "bugs" and this is what I found out: There is a difference between filtering water and purifying water. It is important to know which one you are getting with a water "cleaning" system. The difference between the two is that filtering water removes waterborne protozoa and bacteria, but not viruses. A water purifier is designed to remove protozoa, bacteria AND viruses, giving more protection from "dirty" water illnesses. I also found out that for the most part, purification is not necessarily necessary in the USA or Canada because viruses are seldom a problem in our water. The filtration systems remove protozoa such as Cryptosporidium and Giardia, and bacteria like E. coli and Salmonella. These are transferred through animal waste/feces. That is usually enough in the pristine environments with few to no people. Viruses tend to be in more populated areas because they are mostly in human feces and the water is polluted by human waste. There found my own answer AND learned something, I hope this helps others who didn't already know. I have a feeling people like you folks already knew (including Chris) LMBO!

Thank you Chris for the interesting hike in the Mokelumne Wilderness. I enjoy seeing your other videos where you enjoy cracking open a flavorful beer for the hike. My dad, at 4 years old, came up to a rattlesnake in Eastern Washington, he had the intelligence to stop and back away from it, my dad didn't even know that it was there, it seen and (probably felt) the vibration from my dad walking on the ground before my dad ever seen it. My dad said that the snake was all coiled up and had his forked tongue out ready to strike and was rattling his tail, that probably saved my dad cause my dad heard him ever before seeing him. EWWW! !
