A super handy based tool is the Vessel car battery screwdriver! So handy to have around if you do any automotive repair work to disconnect the battery. It's a super thin 10mm wrench and pry tool in one, and it's like $12. Fits easy in those tight spots with the side terminal batteries, I wish I had one when I worked in a shop years ago.

A testament in my experience with OLFA knives - that full stainless one you showed I learned about from a machine operator in a printing factory. He used this knife daily for all of his cutting and splicing tasks, regular exposure to solvents like high-concentration rubbing alcohol & acetone. I worked there for 3 years. I never saw him replace the knife itself, just snapping off the blades when they get dull. Olfa also sells a little "used blade" container thats nice becuase it fits easily into tool pockets on work bags and it actually holds to the blade & helps you snap it off at the same time it collects the used blade. Closes automatically& you can throw it away or open it up when its full.

Nice. Most of my tools are German or Swedish but I own a few Japanese screwdrivers from Anex, Vessel, Hozan and Engineer and they are top quality.

I've got some Vessel screwdrivers and love them. Thanks for showing and discussing some useful Japanese tools--the quality on many of them is hard to beat, but I feel like a lot of Americans overlook them for various reasons.

In case of hand tools Im a sucker for Wiha, Wera and Knipex. Even though I live in country next to them, they are still pricey, but majority of them are made in Germany or Czech Republic.

Never heard someone pronounce JIS as "JIZ", that made me laugh. Also, I thought the JIS/Philips style were practically identical now? I thought JIS wasn't a thing and has been surpassed by a new DIN standard?
@ballinator Жыл бұрын
Thanks for noticing. Correct, the DIN 5260 standard was designed to be JIZ compatible. The ISO 8764 standard that most manufacturers are using nowadays is also JIZ compatible. It's mostly an issue if you have old Phillips drivers lying around.
@zappa6366 Жыл бұрын
@@ballinator Have to say, even buying new Snap on screwdrivers makes me wonder if they are more Phillips bias being American haha. The Wera set I've had for about 4+ years now (use commercially) is brilliant, wish the were a bit longer but durability is just as good as tool truck brands. Never had an issue on JIS fasters. great video by the way!

I’m with you, the quality of Japanese tools is excellent. I think they have a hard time in the West throwing off their reputation for cheap junk they got in the ‘70’s. I have the Vessel impact driver and the Vampliers and both are very high quality. I remember back in the 80’s when I was in high school there were was a large adjustable wrench made by Lobster so they have been around for a long time. I think postage to Australia is very reasonable from Japan compared to me buying from the US. Great video.
