I love what I do for a living. I have a very open mind so I still learn new tricks and techniques from almost all new drywall tapers I meet and the ones from the past got me where I am today. They are the best in my opinion. I had a stroke 2 years ago and I'm recovering very well. My doctor is very happy with my progress. For memory I'm a mess but physically I'm great. My contractor friend in Orleans doesn't even ask me to sand my finish coat anymore. I put more heart into it. I will eventually make instructions about the fine details with close ups so that you can see that sanding up a dust storm is not necessary at all. This trade has a bad reputation for being the dirtiest job in construction. Professional painters don't even want me to come in a do a primer check because they sand their primer and everything is perfect for paint. I know that it is not easy to learn but I will do my best always to be helpful. I promise! I wish everyone the best always .

Gotta say I really like your approach and the absence of a mud pan - using the hawk to get a handle on your mud control is some of the greatest advice for all steps of the process. Very well done and thanks!!

Hey I want you to know, like everyone else, you are a master. I've been watching home improvement videos for a few years now, gonna finish my basement and right away, when I saw your video from 2010 about taping drywall I upvoted it (don't upvote normally) because I seen a master at work. Modest, professional, educational and fun. Great videos, hope you can make more videos about the things you do.

Thank you for telling me that because it was a pro painter that it was unnessesary for me to sand my finish coat because he sands the primer after it is dry and never asked me to address any touch ups. I'm very happy to help out any pro painters. I wish you the best always.

Excellent video from a professional plaster and teacher. One tip I learned/saw for 3 way corners is to think of them as car lanes meeting into a junction. If you imagine a "left" and a "right" lane, you do all the "lefts" first, then all the "rights" next time. Or vice versa depending on your style. On the Left wall, you have a ceiling edge (left lane) and a wall edge (right lane). Right wall is reversed - Wall is left lane, ceiling is right lane. And you vertical corner is left/right lanes as you look at it.

I was hooked on ur first video and now i see i got quite a few more to go thru. Thanks for your time and help. I do have more questions tho lol.. Do you use a curved trowel or plastering trowel when applying your tape? Seems like you are using a finishing trowel but dont know for sure. Also would all purpose mud be a good choice? And do you tend to add any water to a new bucket? Sorry for all the Q’s but everyone says something different and i would like your take. Appreciate you Boss!

Rented a drywall lift just long enough to place a tricky drywall sheet in my mom's ceiling. I had prepared the rain-damaged area the day before & was able to completely remove a previous 4x8 sheet, revealing the surrounding sheet's edges. The sheet to be replaced ran about 5"x12" under a cabinet's top edge. It was very hard to get the sheet in place due to the cabinet & a nearby light fixture. I got the sheet close and installed enough temporary screws to hold the sheet ALMOST flush to the joists while I ran to the next town to return the lift because the rental time was expiring. When I returned to install the final screws and completely seat the sheet, the opening was about 1/8" too tight. I'm working alone and don't think I can remove the sheet & install it after sanding or rasping the edge down without a lift. Is there any way to accomplish this without completely removing the sheet? I assumed the opening was perfect for a 4' width. Bad move, I know.

I'm a woodworker and general contractor from Connecticut. I like taping my own projects, I just find it soothing and relaxing. But I'm not good enough at it to sub myself out. I'm curious about your method of making a ring and adding plaster to regular mud. When I'm doing work like that where I want to get multiple coats on quickly, I just use a 20 minute compound. What's the difference? and why don't you just use that? Clearly you know more than me, so I'm not trying to argue for the way I do it, I'm just curious about your methodology. Love the videos, you truly are a master, and it's magical watching a good taper handle mud. Thanks fore the content.

Thank you for inquiring as to my use of materials. I also have experience with durabond 90 which hardens like cement in 90 minutes, 45 minute mud. Quickset is the fastest time between coats, that makes my painter pro friends happy. so I shared. Does this help you a little bit?

Laurier, what size trowels do you use? Is it somewhat similar to the taping knife? The knife's I have are 6, 8, 12, 14. The video where you tapped the butt and belly band with the hawk and trowel blew me away, I drove straight to the material yard and picked up a 14" hawk and an 11" trowel ( that's all they had ) I'm in the process of finishing my basement and wasn't looking forward to taping all the joints by hand, but man you made it so simple and elegant! Thanks for all the free training, definitely OG and I highly recommend the way you're doing it.

I'm sorry but this is all I got! I would have to get the old team together to show you 2 guys on stilts and 1 on the floor. We use a mudbox that applies the mud to the tape, gets put in a bucket that is strapped to his waist and he places the tape on the joints from ceiling to floor and the other guys wipe it clean on the joints and inside corners. Please show me what you would like to share. Thank you!

My favorite drywall compound is called CGC beige. I like it because I pull the bag out of the box and I bounce it on the floor to mix it up. I then hold it over a 5 gallon pail and cut the bottom of the bag and squeeze out the mud so I don't waist much. This brand is soft and easy to work with , without the need for a mixing drill. I do realize that I make it look easy because of years of muscle memory so I swithed hands for my hawk and trowel in order to understand how difficult it really is even with all the knowledge. I wish everone the best for success in accomplishing your goals.
