Awesome stuff Jeromy, I’m a little jealous, there’s still a couple feet of snow and every body of water is still froze up around here, looks like spring in your country 🤣, thanks for taking us along for the ride 👍👍

Dang! It’s trying to be spring here, but winter keeps wanting to come back. This river is a super low elevation river, so it was very spring like.

Living vicariously through you. Taking care of a baby surrounded by houses in the suburbs, wish I was out with cold fingers paddling my canoe and making sets.

Is your canoe a Sears 17ft? That’s the one I own. Switched the center thwart for a wooden yoke for portaging and JB welded in some tye down rings into the bottom. Love that thing.

I’m not sure to be honest. This canoe has been passed down to me from several different family members. I paddled this canoe for the first time when I was 13 in a lake at a family reunion. By far the best way to travel on water if you ask me.

You can get an idea of beaver size by looking at the tooth marks on the beaver cut willows, sticks, and trees. Larger beaver have larger teeth. Who'd a thunk? Raccoons love to mess up beaver sets. My brother once caught a thirty pound beaver in a raccoon set and knew a fella who caught a two year old in a 110 Conibear set for muskrats. Good thing it was well anchored. Also seems that the bigger the beaver, the farther it is to the truck.

Hello Jeromy, you keep showin us how to do it! We are doin some pest control for some folks on the Platte. Was gonna ask, you ever have them chew out of a snare? I also noticed that your leg holds ain’t drown sets, you ever have problems with them getting out or chewing out of them? Now the real work begins for you, getting all them put up!😄
@jeromycooley-outwestadvent5790
@jeromycooley-outwestadvent5790 Жыл бұрын
Hey Dale! I have had them twist the snare cable enough to break, but no chew outs yet. You’re right about the legholds not being drowner sets. This river is so hard/ time consuming to put a drowner set in because of the rocky bottom, and it’s wide and shallow. I’m experimenting with this non drowner set…I use my coyote trap, or a Bridger #5. Both have a center swivel, and an inline swivel, which is extremely important. As you know, the beaver’s front foot is so small it takes very little effort for them to twist off their front foot, and be gone. The set has worked good so far. I was blasting through this trapline, and trying to save as much time as possible. With that being said, I’m a firm believer in a drowner set, but sometimes I like to think outside the box. Glad to hear from you!

Really enjoyed the video , do the snares leave a mark on the beaver hide ? Never trapped beaver, not many around here. Thanks Jeromy

Hey Mike! It does leave a snare mark on the hide side of the beaver, but most of the beavers are bought for the hatter market right now, so they don’t downgrade the hide. Great question

Great video. I love that river and always thought it would be fun to trap for beaver on it. I didn't think it would be that populated with beavers though. I love your drone videography. It really gives a different perspective on where you are at and what the surrounding area looks like. Keep up the great video work.

He was huge! I’m going to end up getting that guy tanned. This shallow, hard bottomed river makes it a little more challenging to drown the beavers. It is definitely possible, but I’ve adapted these techniques for my trapline. Thanks for the comment!

Thanks Dan! The snare definitely leaves a mark on the hide, but with this hatter market like it is, it doesn’t seem to matter. Are your beaver going to the hatters?

Just set up some snare sets in my first river for beaver. Usually only do lakes and ponds. About the same size river. I just couldn’t seem to find anything that made sense to make a caster mounds. Muddy bottom on the edge so i did large sticks with snares to n swim by set two opposing snares off the stick and then smear curiosity lure on the stick. Works great on stumps above the water in ponds. So hoping it works see in the morning. Great video. I didn’t have a canoe so not sure where Den is at: I’m a handyman and doing a fence in a back yard that’s about 100 yards above a hill from a river bank. Walked down to take a break and all kinds of feed sticks on the sand bar. So owner said man have at it. Love the hat man. I’m in Virginia. Live cowboy hats but for the life of me i have no clue how you guys wear then in the winter Time my damn ears would fall off.
