Split shot sinker with some homemade flies (tied on small hooks) works incredibly well with spinning reel for sunfish and bluegill.

When you said waxworm, I was hooked. No pun intended. Waxworms are my go-to bluegill bait.

Yup i live in Arizona and my blue gill secret is the gulp, they sometimes work better than a regular worm but infound that the original one is best i never had a bite on thr red gulp

hi captain doug, im over 60, late to start fishing. my friend introduce me to creek and small pond blue gill fishing. The jig you has there looks like it has hairs/legs on it. What is that? did you tie the legs your self? I dont mean the loop holding the jig. Thanks. luck and blessings to you.

If you hit a spawning bed, it doesn't seem to matter what you throw at them. If they can get their mouth on it, they'll attack it.

I have always caught large numbers of bluegill using a Beetle Spin. They also work good for catching Crappie.

Good info. Spot on with the recommendations. I used to use thill floats but have since switched to esp and prefer them over the thill.

Hey William good info...what's the advantage of the esp over the thill floats? Been using the thill for some yrs now.

Great video. I'm unsure the maximum test line and hook size for blue gill. I had a bunch of bites today with bobber and worm. The fish would clean my hook but I never could get them to take the hook. Obviously I'm doing something wrong. I'll take any help. Thanks Hello from Richmond!
@Patiencelad2 жыл бұрын
Hi Greg. I've been using the Berkeley gulp maggots on a simple size 10 baitholder hook. I just push up the bait up the shank and the baitholder barbs keep it in place. Getting lots of hits and a few catches. The downside is that the hook is too short, so it's hard to remove from the fish's small mouth. Need to use hooks with longer shanks. Also, check out the realistic fishing channel. Alex has a slot of tips there. Finally, I just changed to using a mono leader (i.e. clear) and that's been helping too. Good luck and let me know if any other Q's.
