If I were going to make a video on pulling points it would probably be just like this one which I made several months ago. Points are the starting point for many hollow form projects and learning the skills of rotation and even heating are paramount as you will discover in the next few videos.

thank you so much, it's fundamentals, but I needed it badly because I've avoided pulling points for years. Very clear, full, and concise video. It is much appreciated to see a well thought out demonstration. I never thought of turning the tube to heat a larger section, that is good advice, my points have been too short, causing me to pull them too thin. Thanks!!

Your explanations are really well done. My friend and I have just started taking lessons on lamp working, and we were both pretty impressed with the quality of instruction you're providing in this video.

Thank you for all your amazing videos. I keep trying to pull points. It is not as easy as it looks. I watch this one before each time I go in for another attempt. I hope to get this figured out in the next couple of weeks. I want to learn how to make ornaments before the holidays! Also, your icicles are cool. I'll try those too. Thanks again!

Heat the middle of the tube and pull a long point in the center. Then flame cut it in the center. That leaves you with 2 tubes with starting points. For short lengths of tube that are too short to hold because of the heat, I will either close the end and punte it or I will attach another tube to it.

I still have nightmares thinking about how many point I pulled way back when I started... :) It is key to learn and master it indeed. Also steadily increasing diameter..

Make sure you are heating enough glass lengthwise on the tube. Once it is red hot and plyable remove it from the flame and let it cool a few seconds before beginning the pull. Don't pull to fast. After some trial and error you will work it out.

How do you pull that first point from a fresh tube? I'm assuming that I will need to close up and punty the end?
@TimiaGlass

You are not getting the glass hot enough and perhaps not heating enough lengh. It has to be very hot, then let it cool slightly after removing from the flame, then begin your pull.

drop a dot or two of color in the middle of your clear tube so people can see the spinning action better, its very very important not to forget that!

It’s a matter of both input and output. This is 480p (standard definition). No matter what the quality of camera and microphone, if it was encoded in a format that compressed the audio, it will sound tinny. But I’m impressed by the quality of the instruction and don’t care about the audio, as long as I can understand what he’s telling me.

It's probably either 31 or 33. I bet you've pulled more points this week than I have in the last 2 months :-)
