Sometimes the header may need to be "dinged" in a spot or two for clearance. And, the easiest way is to install the headers BEFORE installing the engine. Good Luck on your install My Store - teespring.com/stores/my-store...

When I raced a Super Stock Duster in 1973 we had 1-7/8" JR race headers. They were a close fit but still not to bad to install. The cheaper the header the harder as quality control isn't so good. There's two transmission braces that run from the center of the block just above the pan rail that bolt to the bottom of the transmission housing at about 5 and 7 o'clock. Running without them you might crack your transmission case. It happened to my buddy's 69 Dart 340. Use them if you have them. Most guys forget to put them back on. The headers normally work with them.

Wish it was this easy to install some on my 1970 duster with a 383. I cant see how I'm gonna get any on there. I k ow they say TTI makes a set but I dont see those will fit either. It was originally a 340 4 speed but it's now a big block with 727. I'm wondering if it is even worth it. If anyone has any suggestions on what they did with my same set up please let me know.

I've installed headers on Duster/Darts with power steering. Makes the install a little more painful but most headers are designed to work with power steering.

The ones in this video are Doug's 453. A great fitting header ! And, you can replace the starter without removing the header.

First, let me say i have not installed headers on a C-body. Some say the B-body headers will work. I would check with a reliable source like Dougs or TTI just to see on fitment. Then, you can select a header according to budget from there..... 299.99 up to high end headers. As of brand, I love Doug headers, but also hedmans have always been a good header as well for me. Good luck !

Good video. I need to pull the engine on a 72 scamp witha 318 end a 904 automatic transmission to fix a broken flex plate. Maybe this would be a good time to install headers? I have a question for you about oil pressure on this 318. The oil pressure is good, 40 to 50 psi upon startup. Then after say 40 to 60 seconds later it's down to almost zero. Installed a new oil filter and oil. No change. I shut it down but no knocking sounds. Any ideas? Thanks Eric
@318willrun5 жыл бұрын
stock small block mopars should run at least 50+ cold idle, probably 60 psi would be better. Fully warmed up, 16 - 20 psi at 700 rpm idle would be normal. Don't have enough detail on your motor..... Has it been rebuilt? Forabodiesonly.com is a great source of info

I have the same engine and headers. I keep having a header leak out of the top of cylinder 3 and 5. Tried all sorts of gaskets and no gasket with rtv. Any tips? Thanks in advance.
@318willrun5 ай бұрын
Make sure the headers is tightening against the head. IF it's hitting the torsion bar below, or some other obstacle that's keeping it from going flush, it will always leak.
