Hi Andy, it's me, again. I want to really say thank you because I'm tuning an old and weak engine from a Citroen 2CV6. I made a convertion from carburator to mpfi and after having problems with the idling during a long time your tips here did me see the light and I could solve the issues. Brief, clear and hiting the right target

Hi, a very big "THANKS" from me. I was struggling with hunting idle. Sometimes it was Ok in a tiny coolant temperature range. Today saw your video and know understand the connection between load, fuel, ignition and rpm in IDLE. Tried your tips and half an hour later idle is smooth +- 20-30 RPM from target (openloop).

what a great video and great brief.... currently chasing idle on my engine with a big cam, short exhaust and shared intakes so its a bit pissy, but soley using the timing to control idle isn't something i considered, id been using the throttle stop (no iac yet) then adjusting the VE and timing tables to suit. i do use a large timing valley which helps also though.... food for thought, thanks

So this is working very similar as the “idle adaptive control” like in HPTuners . It allows you to set control parameters to the “over and under “ certain set points of timing for camshaft control .

Mr. Whittle, did you ever make that IAC video showing how to change target RPM while warming up from cold start? Hope all is well.
@averymccall83936 жыл бұрын
andy thank you for all the video's I am struggling with this process my self currently! I am having a hunting idle issue with stock motor, I have only been able to rectify with rich air fuel ratio's 11.8ish. is your recommended process to block off and turn off iacv, set idle rpm manually with air screw adjustment. set AFR's near 14.7, then smooth the idle with ignition timing,

Hope all is well Mr. Whittle. My question is did you keep the ignition tables zoomed like you had in the video or was that just for the lesson? I'm wondering what happens to the areas outside of cells shown when in such a tight table 🤔
@AndyWhittle_HowEFIworks Жыл бұрын
That tight zoom was just for viewing the idle data in MLVHD.

Great content Mr. Whittle. i have been a fan and a user of MS for a long time, but I've been away from it for many years and to give you an idea of how long, my turbo car is running MS1. do you have any lessons on engines with neutral balance and aluminum flywheel/balancers? do they act similar to your engine with no flywheel? thanks

I am restoring a Jaguar V12 engine with carburators and I am thinking of an EFI conversion. Can the Megasquirt system support a V12 and can I use 4 wideband oxygen sensors to control them as close as possible. I have 4 exhaust manifolds where each has input from 3 cylinders which would allow very close controll of that big engine. Btw. Your videos are the best to understand all the facets of fuel injection. Thanks Bernhard
@Mo50056 жыл бұрын
Bernhard List yes it can. I would recommend you head to hpacademy.com and watch those lessons about basic EFI. I’ve used that site to help since KZbin videos only take you so far
@bernhardlist93596 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your reply. My engine is still in pieces but I am gathering the components on the way to convert it to EFI so everything helps. My goal is not a race engine but the smoothest running V12 being dropped into an E-Type roadster. Let’s see if it will work.

Im going to be installing ITBs on a miata, and I don't want to have to figure out installing an IAC. From what Ive read, and from what it looks like you're teaching, if I tune the motor properly, I should be able to achieve a stable idle without an IAC, correct? I don't have A/C or power steering, so the load should be pretty consistent. If I am understanding correctly, even with the changes in alternator load, I should be able to stabilize it enough by using timing to create a self-stabilizing 'zone' in the idle area of RPMs.

True. It is free to try.

So is there also an “adaptive idle control” for the over speed and under speed like in HPTuners to change the timing during idle as in a healthy cam with a lope ?
@Dannerrrr3 жыл бұрын
How do you know what the appropriate idle speed is for a motor? what variables is it based on? Could the example motor have been set to 800 idle? why or why not?

@velr50gt5 жыл бұрын
I may add that one of the best things to do is not to use the EGO, wideband or close loop within the rpms you’re trying to idle with a big cam engine. Use the idle screw, IAC, VE table and timing table to stabilize idle. The EGO will hunt forever.
