I have watched a lot of videos on the hackamore. In Australia they're very rarely seen so I have no one to help me. Ive never had a video so clearly and beautifully explained on breaking down using this tool. Thankyou!!!!

Question from a rider who only has formal education in dressage: is doubling essentially a turn on the hindquarters? If not, what is the difference? And is it performed with only the rein and weight shift, not a direct leg aid as well? I have a Morgan I’m trying to get the AMHA versatility medallions on and these videos have been so helpful as we try out the hackamore and delve into the western disciplines. Thank you :)

Johnny, do you ever sell finished obstacle horses. If so, please let me know if any are available now. I enjoy your training style and would love to have a horse you’ve trained. Thanks!

Question: I have a horse that’s been held tight her whole life, and I would like to ride her in a bosal. She’s a near-finished western pleasure horse and we’re swapping to ranch. How would I go about fixing it? She rides tight on splits in a curb bit and is showable when cows are not involved, but I fear when I eventually introduce her to them she’ll lose it and forget how to ride.

There are two ways to go about starting a hackamore, especially when the horse in question has had either a bad past or training experience. 1. Start in a round pen, they have nowhere to take off to 2. Start after a good workout, when they are sweaty and less inclined to try something dangerous. If your fear is working on dry maneuvers, just start in the round pen. Establish the principles, work on flexing, backing, and rating. Work a lot on body maneuvers. Within a handful of days you can work in the arena, but don't push it. Work slow for a few more days, keep loping slow and to a minimum. The idea is the bluff your horse into doing things, that is how a hackamore works. Keep fast work to a minimum, things move slow in a hackamore and running fast can make them run past the hackamore in the beginning stages of its education. When you do go fast, do it in a well established circle. NOT a straight line. You can also use a double bridle, that is a snaffle and hackamore used in tandem. It offers more security. If your fear is starting on cattle, just work slow. There is so much work to be done at a walk and trot If you cannot get things slow, double the horse away from the cow and go put on another bit. Work on cattle with the bit, as it is more familiar to the horse. Once the discipline is there, go back to the hackamore. Dont do 2 new things at once, start on cattle OR work a hackamore. Don't do both the first couple times at the same time, that's just not fair. Pick one: cattle or hackamore, then hone your pick before trying the other. You don't need to wait 5 years, just a few weeks should do the trick

A Hackamore, a traditional Hackamore is when the Bosal and Mecates are rigged together. The word Hackamore comes from the Spanish word Jaquima. :)

@@JohnnyFloresHorses a hacamore is metal and hangs down the sides of the face they are jointed to be pulled back with the reins to put pressure on the nose I have been using both since 1977 so I know how they look and work they have changed a little over time but their function hasn't I have never used a 3 rein rig always a single rein a properly trained horse don't need it mine don't have giles in their training I can tack mount dismount and untack from either side it's about respect and cooperation control if them is the illusion

@rhondaskiles5740 what you're referring to is a Mechanical Hackamore, not a Traditional Hackamore which is a Bosal (ideally with a rawhide core) and mecates.
