I worked for Radio Shack for 6 years in San Francisco in the early '80s and I never saw these training videos. All I used was common sense and my customers always walked away happy and kept coming back to do business with me.

These were the tapes in use when I began as a full timer in the 90's. Very effective training, and at the time RadioShack was not only a Fortune 500 company, but in the top Fortune 50. Their training programs were considered excellent. You can practically taste the effort going into it.

I remember actually seeing this when it was presented. The "Feel Felt Found" was one of the best things I've ever learned. I remember teaching my salesmen (I was a manager when I left) about the "Nod". Always ask questions, based on the customer's responses to the initial closing questions, with questions that the customer has to answer with a "Yes", nodding yes to the customer. Once the customer starts to nod "Yes", nod them all the way to the counter. It's very difficult for a person to say "No" when nodding "Yes". "So, blue is the color 'blah blah' you like? And the 'blah blah' feature fills the need you mentioned, right? And at only 'blah blah' dollars, it's a great investment! Let me get the batteries for you." Worked every time!

Ah yes, my days working for the SHACK in the 1980's... Watching these Training Videos on Saturday Mornings.... Damn that was a long time ago, L-O-L !

KuyaBill Romjue That’s if you actually showed up at those Saturday meetings. I passed. The job was useless anyway. I wish I knew where the district manager ended up because I’d like to buy him. Then throw bologna at him while he dances in front of other ex-employees

I miss radio shack. I used to buy all my electronics components there. I remember the day I walked in and found that my "section" gone. I was so sad and upset. Never went back.

Here in early 2021. What year was this instructional video from? I wonder what she looks like now. I was a big fan of Radio Shack back in the day (1980's thru about 2010). Then they finally liquidated many stores nationwide including my local one, in spring 2017. It was a shock because I had not been to the store in years as I bought my stuff at the local Frys Electronics& also on the Internet. I bought as much as I could for 40-90% off. End of an era. They rested on their laurels, plus all those other business problems. Same thing happened to another favorite store of mine, Blockbuster, they didn't see Netflix, Redbox & Internet streaming coming, until it was too late. Now Frys seems to also be having some issues & the pandemic is partly to blame. And yeah, I have visited your catalog website before.

LOL it was a shock, but you hadn't been in that store in 7 years! LMAO don't feel bad, I worked at Radioshack from 2001-2002, and I stopped going in 2010 myself. Even then ONLY went because I wanted to buy a phone and knew that was the ONE thing RS employees were still knowledgeable and about to give A-1 service for

This lady’s voice is so well articulated that it seems almost AI generated…do you agree? I bet she’s done numerous training videos and call center recorded voice lines by this point. I’m actually very impressed with her performance, even if she is reading from cue cards.

Side note comment: Not using these techniques and moving towards the "Clerk" format of employees (not mentioning losing the Realistic and Tandy lines) is what killed Radio Shack. It was once a great store. They completely lost the Bread and Butter customers (a true Radio Shack employee knows what they are) and trying to go "main stream" clerk, and "let's sell anything" format, killed Radio Shack. I wish they understood that. If they went back to the old methods, the Realistic brand, and brought back Tandy, they could still compete.

I was a senior store manager many years ago. What you said is absolutely true. Also their lack of embracing online ordering. Failure to support "instant gratification" of sales in thr store to overcome the higher price over Chinese knockoffs did kill them. I still have many Realistic, Optimus and other Radio shack products. They outlived all the Wal-Mart brands

Unfortunately they phased out the Realistic brand during the 1990’s and went with Optimus (which only lasted 10 years as opposed to Realistic’s 40 or so) and Radio Shack brand. I felt the change was not necessary. I also didn’t like that they took Realistic products and re-branded them as Radio Shack.

As a store manager back in the 90's these videos were essential. Cheese but helped train new employees. This is how we qualified how a product would work best for a customer and sell the accessories they need to make it work thr best. Wal-Mart and Best buy cant do that. Too bad it failed in the end.

@Cliff Yablonski if any part of that story was true I am sure you were in the modern cellular sales radio shack. Our parts section back in the 90's was beyond any in the market. It is impossible to compare stores from then to now or even store to store. Since store managers were responsible for stocking the 271- top 271- series parts a qualified store manager would have know exactly what you want. Or used the Radio Shack in store catalog parts system to match and order any of a million plus parts. Even specific parts for brands Radio shack did not sell. Again, until the mid 2000 Radio Shack still had answers and all the cool parts. Then they changed due to a lack of market understanding, high employee turnover, poor training, and mostly multiple scandals involving their senior management, CEO and presidents. NO ONE PULLED DOWN THEIR PANTS. Troll.........

Suggest to your customer to make a short call and offer your phone to make it, so they are able to ask their husband or wife for their opinion. If they are still undecided let the customer leave. Next day make a call and ask if they would like to come by with their husband or wife to have them both there. Once both are there work on the one whose most reluctant to buy for whatever reason. Most likely you are able to convince them to buy in the end, if not the high priced product, there is always something else they can agree with. A sale is made and all parties should be happy.
