Span of column is depend on architectural planning, it can be more or less. Structural engineer can't restrict the span, he has to design the required span.

We can use 16mm steel bar in 9"*9"size of rcc column for G+2 storey houses.

in the philippines, we are using 16mm RSB, minimum of 4 pcs for a 200 x 200 or 250 x 250mm for at least a 2 storey (5 to 6.0m ht.) with spans of 4.5 to 5.0 m column to columns and at least fy = 3000psi. my one cent. fyi.

Do you always need software like etabs to design rcc column? Is there a way to determine the maximum shear and moment of the columns by hand / manual computation? Or would that be too hard since there's axial load on the column plus earthquake loads to consider?

Ok...but one point missing. I am not a civil engineer but MEP supervisor.. 9x9 column with 4 bars 12mm and column span 5 mtrs but till what height it can be used.. There must be some limit 🤔🤔 If so what is max height for these columns. I want to make a 5x7mtr room with height of 4mtr and with rcc roof.. 9x9 column is ok..?

Different countries use different standards. That's the first thing you should know. In a country like Nigeria where we use the British Standard (BS Code), the least for the depth of a slab is 150mm, least for beam is 230mmx450mm, and least for column is 230mmx230mm. Those are the least. But those sizes can still be increased based on the spanning and loading.

This design preferably not be considered, every geometry is different from other, it can not taken blindly this size, no of floor is not described, height of column is not described, you can take any RCC design book and solve example as your requirement and must fulfil the code requirement of IS 456-2000, IS 1893-2015 and IS 13920-2016. Thumb rule must updated as code revised....

Sir I constructed two column of 9 inches with 6no 12mm steel and length between two column is 17 feet and put the beam of 9×12 inches of 16 mm steel.and no wall will construct on this beam.is it useful for 2nd and third stories.

Assalamalaikum sir, what effect of rain water seeping through rcc slab will be on steel inside slab and concrete itself. It creating damp patches here and there inside the roof downstairs, but other than this is there any severe efect of moisture on the reinforcement bars in slab and on concrete in slab? What heppens if the rcc slab was exposed to moderate rain fall for about 20 days? Does the reinforcement in slab corrode and break or nothing happens if it was just exposed to moderate rain for 20 days. Please reply sir.

Sir please reply sir.. Sir we have extrnded (only) slab to 20 inches in width and 46 feet in length using 10mm bars as main bar and 8 mm bars as distribition bar...how much load can it take.? I mean if we construct a 4" wall on its edge for the whole 44 feet length ? Will it support the load of brick wall (either 4" or 9" wall) or will it deflect largely and collapse ?
