Beautiful demonstration of the Sarabande pulse. Time and limbs are momentarily suspended every second beat.

Bloody good job the New Romantics never got hold of this back in the late '70's.

Steven Hodges Quantz writes in his flute-school that it should be about 80 bpm. But I actually prefer it a little slower, as beautifully shown in this video:)

So this is how ballet evolved... Looks beautiful but also so damn hard :)

I agree. As I understand it, it wasn't unusual for members of this class to have a daily dancing lesson. After all, these were people who didn't have jobs.

@Davmm96 Жыл бұрын
@@danawinsor1380 meh, When you read texts from the period they state that anybody can dance, hence the dance notation by M. Feuillet. It's actually easier than modern ballet as it is a bit like ornamented walking. Everybody still had bit of time to have fun, some went out to play billard and drink, other went out to dance, just as we do nowadays in our urban lifes.

Please give credit to the music and musician, for -without either - there would be no dance! (I recognize it as J.S. Bach from a French Suite ...)
@channelterminatedanddead5 жыл бұрын
Please give also credit to the makers of harpsichords and pianos - without either there would be no music! And also give credit to those earlier composers J. S. Bach took ideas from. We have been over-idolating Bach for decades and ignored all the other great composers of the baroque period.

Can anyone identify the composer? I listened to the Corelli sonata in D minor and didn't hear this theme. Besides, that sonata is a violin sonata without a keyboard solo
@juliacarre97884 жыл бұрын
It is from A. Corelli.

How difficult is this? It is quite slow, but does the pas require a lot of practise to perform?
@Davmm968 ай бұрын
Not a lot. The hard part is learning all the steps. (Coupé, demi-coupée, pas de garde, pas de sissone, pas tombé, glissade, pas de bourrée, pas de menuet, battements, pirouette, jeté, contretemps...). Then it's just a matter of getting to coordinate your feet and your arms with taste. One could take a modern ballet introductory class to learn the 5 positions and pliés/relevés and then try to find an historical dance teacher.

What is etymology origin of sarabande? In Congolese traditional religion Sarabande or Salabanda is God of Thunder. Is there a real connection as Atlantic African kidnap and slave trade already existed. ?or perhaps just coincidence???
@Davmm962 жыл бұрын
Coincidence, Sarabande is the french way to write zarabanda, which was a spanish dance with arab/persian influence (zarband - سربند). But by some means, when they imported the dance to France it became a slow court dance which didn't rime a lot with the "wild" spanish zarabanda.
