Did you know that you have... 2 hands! Press Z to use the other one. You can even crawl along ships at no fuel cost by alternating one and the other.

I found this helps a ton when trying to make precision cuts, specifically the tankers with lots of fuel lines to cut. I also found crawling very helpful when I had no fuel.

To add a few tips: 1- All of those lights are harvestable for the barge. 2- The cutting g head can be rotated when on the line mode with the right mouse button. 3- Can't get the angle you need with a tether? Use 2 at an actute angle centered on where you need the object to go and once it's up to speed and halfway along its journey, cancel the tethers. 4- There are hidden data drives, use the scanner to find them.

It's rarely worth the time to pull the lights off and send them to the barge. They're worth so little money, I'd much rather spend the time grabbing something else that's worth more.

True I realized very quickly you can get all the stages of completion without taking off any lights as long as you’re meticulous and do everything else correctly.

If you're grappling to the kiosk for air and need to stop fast you can use the force push as long as your line is still connected to the destination.

The scanner is actually REALLY useful. First of all it highlights break points. Sometimes you are looking at a ship part that has both furnace and processor parts fused together, and the scanner can show where the break parts are. Secondly it shows compartments with and without atmo, so you can easily take a glance at a ship and see where the atmo is that you need to remove or if the ship is already in vaccum Thirdly the upgrades allow you to have objects and system modes which are great for tracking down system locations in later ships and objects on parts before you send them off to the processor/furnace The author of this video does a great job on showing how useful that can be since he both sent a fused furnace/processor item off to the processor and the a wall section with a light off to the processor without noticing the light was still attached. Doing a quick scan of things you are about to send off is a good habit to form to make sure you get the maximum value out of your ships. One further great benefit of the scanner is that it can help highlight objects in space. Multiple times I have had an objects that didn't reach their final destination or were separated from the rest of the hull while I was working inside to cut the hull apart. Doing a quick scan of my surroundings with the scanner allowed me to quickly and easily find those objects.

Hands, plural. Z and X by default. Hands are useful for microgravity traversal, crawl across a hull or through a crawlspace. Hands are also good for avoiding impact damage during high velocity traversal. It won't save you at really high velocity, but it's better than slamming your helmet into the hull because you mistimed your braking. Tethers can pull class 1 reactors from their housings, meaning you don't have to be in close proximity to the reactor during the pull, and you get the best time to barge. Using the grapple to push large sections of ship doesn't work, but using your own mass, propelled by a grapple push from another large mass, will shift unconnected sections. I have used this to open gaps in outer hull for access to open space, and to nudge large pieces of salvage into processor/furnace wells without needing to return to the kiosk for tether replenishment. Tethers are the preferred option though. Venting a pressurized compartment is generally safer from outside. Have a general render-safe checklist for each ship, things that should be done first. Depressurize, thruster unlock, etc. Things that complicate operations if you don't have power or whatever.
@christopherjones7191
@christopherjones7191 Жыл бұрын
A couple more tips Depressurizing from inside the ship is usually best, if you split the hull, that can throw even large ships around. You can start aiming the splitsaw at a new target immediettly after starting the cut. The splitsaw will always show you where you are cutting with its additional red dots. Thruster breaking force is better than the top speed, lets you move faster with the grapple. The longer your tether, the more force it applies. Tethers can be used to quickly detach components from walls, just tether to the barge or tether two components together and they will rip themselves off the wall much faster. Unless you are trying to get really high efficency, you can usually get all rewards faster by ignoring most things that go into the furnace and just chucking the entire inside into the barge. You can move an entire ship around slowly by grappling a medium sized component and pushing it into the ship. This works where even tethers cannot move something. Reserve the stinger for when you want to melt and destroy panels. Otherwise the splitsaw will be used for 99% of what you need.

That's interesting, this game does something pretty rare in first person shooters. The guns/tools actually exist in the physical world and not just as 3D UI elements. Usually, fired projectiles also technically come from the center of your character, not the muzzle of the gun. It's just made to look that way in most games. Hence, the line of fire of the cutter becomes really important

Great info! I respectfully disagree with your upgrade prioritization, though. -Range upgrades on the Stinger are great, but upgrading the range on the Splitsaw can actually be more of a liability than an aid, as you're rarely/never going to be firing from beyond the default max range anyway and doing so makes it more likely you'll clip something you'll wish you hadn't. -On Grapple upgrades, getting one Range upgrade to ensure you can reach the front of whatever ship you're breaking down from the HAB (and vice-versa) is *very* nice, but I've yet to ever fail to reach anything I've wanted to grapple beyond that first range upgrade. Kinda superfluous. Grapple Strength and Charge upgrades can be really nice for allowing you to drag heavier pieces of Cargo (Reactors, Heat Sinks, ECU's) more easily as well as distance exterior hull panels from the rest of the ship, and manipulate them more effectively. For tethers, first Lifetime upgrade is *amazing* and any beyond that are nice, but will almost never matter. Thether count is great, but once you have the first upgrade, you'll probably only restock once per shift anyway until you get to around the final thether count upgrade, meaning the ones in-between aren't *really* doing much for you. -Unlocking Scanner modes is *incredibly* helpful, especially for learning new ships. The Object mode is really the MVP, showing you through walls Barge items you may have missed, as well as making pick-ups for your side-ship *way* easier to see. The other unlockable mode *can* be pretty helpful for tracking down electrical stuff, as well as making sure you're not missing something before you go messing with Fuel/Coolant stuff. Similar to Grapple, one Range upgrade is nice, everything else is redundant. -Thruster Braking is *very* nice. The upgrades past the first one aren't *that* noticeable, but I'd still take them every time. Saving time stopping after rotating, or coming to a stop to use the shop kiosk after rocketing in on a tether *feels* really nice, and it does add up a bit over time for getting things done in a shift. Thruster Speed is less useful, but it's not a bad thing to throw your LT at. Fuel Capacity I'd say about the same about. It's nice, but Fuel pick-ups are probably the most common pick-ups I see on ships, the default fuel capacity is *way* higher than O2, and through the power of grappling, running out of fuel isn't even *that* bad. -O2 Capacity upgrades on the Helmet are some of my most favorite. Every level of it feels great. The less I have to go to the shop kiosk mid-shift, the better. O2 recharging in pressurized environments feels like a total waste, though. If you're taking time out of your shift to pressurize a cabin to refill O2, that's very inefficient. Outside of that, the O2 you regen while in the process of depressurizing a ship is going to be negligible. -For Suit upgrades, the one that synthesizes audio in depressurized environments is pretty nice for tracking down Fuses when you get to that part of the game. Outside of that, I do agree that you're better off just not making mistakes, but for the moments where you fail to do that, having Fire Resistance isn't bad, with Electrical Resistance being my secondary pick. Probably the two most common and costly hazards to mess up.

Play style affects upgrade priorities a lot I think. One point with both the tether and demo upgrades though, is that they'll give you a free refill to the new maximum. Not a game changer, but it's a nice little point of efficiency for those who like that sort of thing. I don't find the tether lifetime upgrades much of a priority, because I tend to do a lot of tether cancelling, and tend to do any (planned) explosive decompressions with demo charges, though I'll get them by the time I'm working on the big Javelins and Geckos late game. Demo upgrades to reduce blast radius are essential (although I'm not sure whether it will cause more damage similar to decompressions, or if it's just how clear of the blast you have to be not to get thrown about by it), and quantity is useful when you get into the big end game ships, but you should never really need to recover a demo charge (it's pretty easy if you do, although you get no explanation for the minigame) and thrown charges is just asking for trouble.

to be honest the saw mode is the reason why I die most of the time. If you're going too fast you end up cutting something in the background and if said something is a pressurized room... The best way to avoid any kind of fuck up is to only use it last when you're basically cutting all the cut points holding the external hull together while carefully avoiding airlocks.

Additional handy tip - guessing this wasn't covered either :P If you're grappling something, using F (or middle mouse button, though it's more awkward) to push will *only* affect the object you're grappling. Very useful if you've got other things around you don't want to punt in the same direction (barge items into furnace, furnace items into barge etc.). Do beware however, if you're grappling something that you can't move with the grapple, then attempting to push it will actually knock you away from it (equal and opposite reaction)!
