If anyone saw some redstone tutorials, you know what it is for. But for those who didn't, the observer checks if the block turns from grass to dirt, it lets out a signal for the wool to be sheared and send it to a nearby hopper which sends it to a chest.

just in case you still don't know how the observer work it's for redstone, it detects a block update (block placing, block change of movment, etc.) and the shears are on a dispenser wich can just be in there and not be shot

The observer block is used to detect changes in blocks around it and provides a redstone signal . its hard to use but awesome if you know what to do with it

Marcel FYI: The Observer block is a Block Update Detector (BUD) block that will send a short Redstone pulse if the block it is facing gets updated (mined, placed, opened, closed, etc.). They are placed like Pistons. The Observer will detect block updates on the face of the larger red square.

The observer is a block that observe change on the face-like side of the block so it can activate redstone on the red dot side. So if you put a block on the face side, it'll activate a piston on the red dot side for an example.

This probably the best video from their Minecraft series. Just and FYI, the observer detects block updates (i.e. destroying/placing blocks) and outputs a redstone signal. The face has three holes and that is what detects the block updates. The red thing is what outputs the redstone signal
