That’s my plan! I hate college, I have dropped out 5 times already, I never felt happy with none of the careers, but becoming a FA is my dream. I have loved airplanes since I was 5 and I love to discover new cultures or experience new environments, I feel like a disappointment for my family specially for my mom who wanted me to continue my studies, but I realized that my happiness comes first, I have also met people who have a degree and they end up working in something else or unemployed, so just do whatever makes you happy and always have a plan B if you already tried college and you didn’t like it❤ PS. I forgot to mention that I work in customer service in the meantime so this is a plus. At the end dropping out college and start working at a young age wasn’t a bad idea at all.

For some people college is the right move and for others it’s not. It depends on what you’re working towards. One thing I disagree with is young people going to college simply because they feel their parents “forced” them or told them they have to go to college to be successful when in actuality they want to be pursuing something else. You don’t need the approval of your parents or others to pursue you dream. Believe in yourself.

I really needed that because I just broke it to my parent that college was not the path for me as an artist 👩‍🎨 and they made me feel like I want gonna be anything in life just because of school even though I’m a hard worker and go getter.
@cgfitnessandarboriculture
@cgfitnessandarboriculture 3 жыл бұрын
@@diamondlincoln7127 Tune out the negativity from others even your parents. It’s hard because being family we obviously want support from them. Don’t waste time trying to convince anyone. Not everyone pursues their true dream for whatever reason. Some people have been led to believe it isn’t possible which is nonsense. But if you believe in your dream and yourself that’s what matters.

yes!!! let’s normalize the fact that success is relative and college isn’t the only way to it! it wasn’t until my last semester of my senior year that i realized the reason i went to college was bc i was convinced it was my only option and the obvious next step. i would’ve saved thousands of dollars had i considered the fact that the only person who could decide whether or not i am successful is me and i don’t necessarily need a college degree to prove that to myself. proud of you for doing what makes you happy and so excited for the content you’ll make out of it :)))

If it doesn't make you happy you have the choice to get rid of it. A detox. You have to do what makes you happy. What makes you feel safe. I love this because I am also struggling with college a lot. I think it's very inspiring that you choose to do something that makes you happy. You don't have to explain anything. This is your life and your choices are no one's business. Also, "the only point in life is to be happy" is an amazing thing to realize, so true.

Might go back and finish later on in life but learning online for something I'm not excited about to possibly ending up in a miserable job is just not working out right now.

I think it's also super important to acknowledge the privilege of being able to drop out/taking gap years in the first place. A lot of people find themselves not having this choice (for financial or personal reasons) and even if it's amazing for you, let's not pretend it's possible for everyone. (also, the idea of going to college and studying something that makes you happy is wild to me, I had zero choices in what to study (immigrant parents) and wow, it must be incredible). :') I wish everyone struggling in school/uni at the moment a lot of strength, we can do it!

I was thinking the same thing. It’s a privilege to drop out of college to work for yourself rather than getting a “real” job. Not everyone has a home to come back to and a safety net that supports them until they have figured out what to do or how to do it.

Agree I had a rough last quarter/semester dealing with being back home, unstable technology, and my mental health took a strong decline as well as my grades. I wanted to take a gap year but my scholarships require me to be in school now till next year so I wouldn’t be able to use that money any other time nor do I have any extra money of my own to pay for school.
@basicallyreese
@basicallyreese 4 жыл бұрын
believe me, I totally recognize the privilege of it all - going to college in the first place and then leaving. which is why it also unsettled me staying because I felt like I was paying all this money for something I wasn't even enjoying (for context, I pay my own tuition and will have loans to pay). But just because I have the choice, doesn't mean I don't value it. Or because I'm not in school, doesn't mean I'm not working hard and growing my skills/knowledge. Just because I'm not going the traditional path, doesn't mean it isn't worth it!

success is how YOU define it. there are thousands of people out there without college degrees who are happy and “successful”. i know that i feel happiest when i’m learning and growing on my own time, and college wasn’t serving that. however, that doesn’t mean that it doesn’t serve others - some people love and learn a lot from college! it’s all about YOUR personal journey :-)

I really wish I could drop out of college, but my dad has paid for it (outside of scholarships) & I’d feel so guilty wasting his money. While college is mentally & emotionally draining me, I’m going to push through to make him (and my other family members) proud of me. I’m also very close to the end & should be graduating this December. I’m thinking of this as temporary suffering until I get my degree & then doing whatever makes me happy after 😅 I’m happy that you’re in a position where you can make this decision for yourself & be at peace with it. 🥺💚 And also, I hate that in high school they make you feel as if college was the only option after graduating. There are so many other routes, trades and ventures that are options and can make for a “successful” life. College isn’t for everybody. If I had known then what I knew now, I’m 95% sure I would’ve never went the traditional college route.

My wife at her job. Couldn't go higher on the pay scale because she didn't have a degree. She had to watch as other people. Worked LESS and got paided MORE!!! That was brutal!!! She was able to eventually change companies. Where her years of experience counted as her degree. Wasn't easy!!! So beware!!! The corporate world doesn't pay much at all. Unless you have a degree. That includes all kinds of benefits. Matching 401K plans. Retirement plans etc. I could not go to college myself. It would have been impossible for me to make passing grades. What I did instead. I lived at home. For several years. SAVED 80% or more of my money I made from working 2 jobs. That enabled me, after years of very hard work. To purchase farm land and equipment. To get started farming. I was able to realize my dream of farming. If you can't do college. For whatever reason. You BETTER have a damn good plan! My 2 cents.

Thank you for talking about this! I just dropped out of college myself for really similar reasons. I was studying communication and didn’t really question it at all since I was always told college was the next step and that it was a "safe" degree choice. However, I soon realized it wasn’t the right path for me. I want to be a filmmaker which doesn’t really require a degree, and was spending so much money for something that wasn’t gonna help me get where I wanted, especially since I wasn’t even studying filmmaking. I am really happy I dropped out and know it is the right choice for me. Thank you for sharing!

this video resonated with me so much.. i’ve been contemplating on dropping out because the past two semesters have been online and i’ve learned NOTHING. i’ve literally learned nothing about my major or learned any skills within my major.. and the fact that i’m two years behind in my major meaning more money which i don’t know if i can afford. I’m a senior in college, i’m behind in my major. I’ve learned nothing during these online semesters only making it more difficult for me to succeed in my current classes. i’m still unsure whether or not i will drop out of college or just take a gap year

I'm also 21 and I just dropped out recently; I've been binge watching videos on KZbin of people who dropped out, but most of them were from years ago when the shitshow that was 2020 wasn't even a thing. This was such a great video to watch for me. I have always had a love/hate relationship with the education system in the Netherlands (where I live), I remember saying in sixth grade: "I wish I could go to university right now because I know I would have so much more freedom." My classmates weren't very friendly (kinda got bullied) and I always felt like I learned things in a different way than they were taught. But then I actually went to university, and I very much disliked it. I chose a university that was relatively strict, but I only found out after I went. So now, two years later (with the first three months being in-person and the rest online), I finally got the chance to switch universities. I'm so relieved because it allowed me to create a personalized schedule, which actually gives me more freedom to decide what I want. And gladly I'm also moving out, so I got that going for me 😊 Anyways, thank you for making this video. I thought I was so weird in me disliking school so much, but now I know I'm not alone. (and btw I have been binging your channel for two days now and I'm loving it, I promise I'm still productive and intentional 🤓 I play you in the background hahah. love your content ✨)

I feel the same as you. I'm currently studying for a degree that I don't plan on using in the future, so it's really holding me back from growing as a person. There are so many things I want to do but I either feel extremely guilty because I should be studying instead or just being in school prevents me from doing these things altogether. All the essays, the deadlines, the exams, the mandatory attendance for certain classes feel like a prison and are stealing my freedom. I've had huge procrastination problems these past 2 years and now I'm realising it's because of that. It's really overwhelming because I never imagined I'd ever think about dropping out of college but I know this path is wrong for me, now I just have to mutter the courage to actually do it.

Thank you for normalizing this, I am every once in a while having the exact same thoughts. I thought I would LOVE what I was going for. I’m going to be a veterinary technician, and it just seems like most of the knowledge is going in and out my ears. I love love animals, but despite finally being in my core classes and getting to be in person much more than last semester, I’m just not loving it. And it’s weird because I am generally a good student and used to love love school

I graduated from undergrad in May 2020 and didn't go back to grad school immediately because I don't know exactly what I want my masters in (though for the fields I'm interested in, you basically need a masters just to get started). I financially couldn't afford it, and not being certain on a program felt like I should wait and get working experience before deciding. I've been applying to jobs since March and haven't been able to find anything, which basically wasted my entire year of hoping to get experience before deciding what program to pursue. Most of the masters programs I was looking at were only 2 years and it makes me so mad knowing that I could have been nearly halfway done by now if I weren't so indecisive. That was basically me just venting lol. I'm glad you're happy now and hope that everything continues to work out for you!

I was working towards this translator degree for so many years, finished translation + interpreting school which I needed to do first and now only would have one year of university left. I wish high school students were more educated in things like student loan debt, causes of college burnout, and careers that don’t require degrees. most schools hype up college so much, and it leaves way too many kids drowning in debt or wasting time/money on a useless degree when they could be out there building their careers.

I'm in college, trying to complete my major in biology. I've noticed that throughout the amount of time that I have been here, the grind to my major feels more like a punishment than anything else and I keep telling myself that I am here because I have to be, not because I want to be. I really don't want to be in college. I've told my mom about my not so great relationship with college and about how I don't want to be here. She tells me that it's worth it but I always beg to differ with that. It does not feel worth it to be here but I'm always so concerned that I will let her down if I drop out after all the time and effort she has put in to help me. This just gives me that feeling of obligation to stay here until I finish my major which I really hate (once loved). I want to make my parents proud but I'm confident that college isn't going to do it... how do you form a plan after you drop out? There are so many things I want to do that require rigorous paths that I don't wish to take for the sake of my sanity...

I dropped my classes for this semester because something happened with my financial aid and that made me realize that I did not want to spend money in it because it feels like waste of time. My idea of college changed during the pandemic(quarantine). I didn't even feel like dealing with emailing financial aid. its like 3 semesters left but I wanted to rush things which I guess makes me feel anxious. I dont think I really want to work as a lab person my whole life. I felt like If i did go into that career I will regret it and be stuck with it just because it pays. I told my parents about it and I felt upset because well we as a society put alot of value on a degree. My mom was kind of disappointed at first but then she said its okay cuz you can still be successful. I dont really have a plan for the future but im wanting to explore my creative side and develop those skills. I think soon I will know what I want. Some people they can deal with these things of school but some cant and I think we should not have school be the ultimate path and we shouldn't also just go to please others. Its best to reflect on it. Maybe you can take a break and discover what you want too.
