My Christian mom has the best ancestor altar I’ve ever seen and she has no idea. It lives in my great great aunt’s desk with stained glass cabinets. Tons of photos, candles, crosses, and the first written book of a language my grandmother helped transcribe. Whenever I watch the house I cleanse it and place protection

my current altar (which i’ve set up fairly recently) is also my desk, so it has sticky notes and pencils and a reminder board and such, and also my makeup, candles (which i made myself, i really like making candles sidbaj), book of shadows, dream journal, rocks from special moments in my life, and plant flashcards (which i made a while ago) so its both a place of knowledge and confidence for me and a place of magic and spirituality, which i think is a great mix for my practice. it’s very subtle so my family members who don’t know don’t rlly think anything of it!

my altar is a cabinet with a door since many friends of the family usually come to my house and tbh i don't like that they're gossiping about my altar lol. also, my guides and ancentros share the same altar and there's a lot of variety. feathers and bones, alcoholic beverages and water. very opposite lol

I am just entering the practice, and the talk of ancestors reminds me of my latest passing great grandmother (kicked the bucket around 2011?). She was a wildly strong woman, wicked almost but heavily Christian...would go to a church that spoke in tongues--kinda Christian. Now, being that I've had some divine like interventions that I believe are related to her, I'd like to remember her if/when I can create an alter, however. If she was this southern Baptist woman, would it upset her if I remembered her through an altar? Being that you are remembering your Catholic ancestors, I assume its sort of same story? Maybe I'm looking in too deep.

My alter is half of my dresser. It contains like a little wooden crate with a purple cloth placed on the bottom and as crystals, and shells, a little jar that has dried rose petals on the bottom and my sage bundle in it, 2 candles, one for hades one for persephone. Persephone card from my goddess deck, a little gold metal cauldron where I burn my incense cones. And above my crate on the wall I have a wooden triangle shelf that has moon phases on the bottom and it has little hooks to and stuff from which I currently have my pendulums hanging and a crystal necklace. On the shelf I have more crystals. And above that I have a floating shelf that holds all my decks and some witchy books. I also have a box of my herbs next to my crate on my dresser, an owl statue (I LOVE owls), and my mortal and pestal. For the longest time I had a hard time decided how I wanted to do it cuz I wanted it to look "perfect" but by doing that I was only procrastinating. So I just decided to finally draw out what I wanted and just started what I could and bought what I needed over time

I've been seeing a lot more crows, pulling the death and hanged man card a lot, and I've been recently been feeling the strong urge to learn about working with ancestors. can someone please tell me what this means? could it be a sign? a deity? well hi! i have a questioooooon so, I'm pretty new to witchcraft, it has been almost five months, and like a month ago i decided to do my altar and everything, it came out good and i like it a lot. The thing is, i put a cup of water on my altar, right in the center, and i have been noticing that everytime i refill the water after like three days (really quick) the cup is just almost empty again, and it had been like that since moment zero and idk what it means, bc water don't just dissapear from one day to another??? so if anyone had a similar experience or just knows what that means can u pls tell me is so confusing 💀💀💀
@lauren16133 жыл бұрын
hi, so this is my take on it, but obviously my experiences won't be exactly the same as yours. so first I would just make sure that you don't have any pets that are drinking out of it, and if you don't you might have a spirt of some sort hanging around your house! try to cleanse and do some divination to find out more about it if you're interested!
@f4llen4ngel33 жыл бұрын

Hello there everyone! Baby witch here! Sorry if this is a dumb question! But what do I do with my offerings? Do I leave them there forever? And I haven’t done so yet, but what do I do in the future when I put wine(or other beverages) or foods as offerings? Do I just toss it after or consume it myself? I just don’t want to disrespect or offend any deities or anything
@lasilo20173 жыл бұрын
Hi! What I recommend is that when you give offerings like food or that can rot after a while, ask for the entity/deity for permission to take it out and replace it with another offering. I’m a pagan and yesterday I had to toss out an apple that was getting bad, but I made handmade cinnamon incense for my deities. (Sorry if my english isn’t good, I speak in spanish)

hey, so my room doesn't have many surfaces it'd be safe to burn candles on as they have wooden shelves pretty near above them. I'm considering going into worshipping deities but also just in general, if I want to do spells by my altar but can't have candles lit on it is there any work around for that?
@9mermaid93 жыл бұрын
If you work with your ancestors does it mean that you don't believe in reincarnation? I don't know how you could mix the two if the spirit of the ancestor would move on to become something else. Can someone explain it? Another thing I don't understand yet is working with animal spirits. If you, for example, work with the spirit of the fox, is it like an abstract idea, spirit of a particular fox, or some kind of a metaspirit that represents all foxes?
@enbyautie3 жыл бұрын
i’m not sure i could offer a reply on the ancestral work as it can get pretty complicated, but i can definitely explain working with animal spirits. many practitioners believe in an “archetype” of each animal, or a set of traits that are found in every being within a species. you can also connect this idea to the “oversoul” of an animal, or the piece of the soul that is found within the cosmos/universe that unites everything. the archetype and oversoul of an animal is often what is worked with, such as the mischief and swiftness of the fox, or the love and peace of a dolphin. it’s not quite a single animal (physical manifestation of the archetype) that one would work with, it’s the general spiritual manifestation of an animal that one would work with. i hope this helped!

do you know if it would be ok to have an altar for ancestors that I don’t know or how to go about that? I am not ready to have a full on dedicated altar for any entities but i would like to at least light a candle for them. Would that be ok or should I wait a little in my practice to do any thing of the sort? Thank you :)

Does anyone know of any indigenous witches? I would love to see what they have In regards to just their whole practice. Build Inspirstion and become a fan.
