Thank you! I was rated around 950 and I've been trying to learn the queen's gambit to catch my opponents by surprise. I am now around 1025 and my opponents have been defending like in 2:52. I knew there had to be a weaknesss in that defense. Thanks again!

Very helpful video, clear and not long-winded. I liked to play the Queen's Gambit, but always quaked if my opponent took the pawn, because I only had a hazy idea as to how I was supposed to regain it! Thanks again.

6:01: Ng5 The bishop on e6 is covered by the pawn on f7 If Bd7 is played and you allow Nxh7 then the bishop on f8 is also onder attack. From this point of view is Nf6 not a beter answer?

At 6:45 what if pawn plays h6 attacking the knight?
@woudwilder8324
@woudwilder8324 5 жыл бұрын
The problem with playing E3 instead of E4 in my opinion is that you block the bishop more or less and also, it might be argued that you grab more space moving it towards e4, and at 2; 43; correct me if I am wrong, having the pawn on b5 is certainly good but you can not simply capture like is mentioned in the video because as well the horse, the bishop and the rook are guarding the pawn on a6. You can only profit from that if they make the mistake taking that pawn. But for the rest I find it very useful so far
@Kestony
@Kestony 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the question Woud. First of all e3 is played because it wins the pawn back without any risks and white wants to play e3-e4 after he castles and gets kngiht to f3 when black doesn't have any strong response to it anymore. Usually black would try to play for c7-c5 soon and then one of the changes in the structure could arise after black plays cxd4 and white takes back with e3xd4 - a classical isolani position for white with better chances. Immediate e4 runs into e5 from black where a lot of theory is needed to know for white - position can get very sharp. At the highest level all e3, e4 and Nf3 are considered to be main lines.

Hello Max, thank you for your question. The position is winning for the following reasons: black's king is exposed, unsafe and in the open center; white is developed and can develop initiative against the black's king; black has no counter play because white's king is safe; white is more active. What if black plays bishop to d7 to defend the pawn on b5 ?
@Kestony
@Kestony 5 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your question Edward. You probably mean this line: 1. d4 d5 2. c4 dxc4 3. e3 b5 4. a4 Bd7 5. axb5 Bxb5 where the easiest way for white to win back the pawn and have big advantage would to play 6.b3 and threaten to take on c4 where due to the pin black is unable to capture on b3. I really recommend watching my video on Queen's Gambit declined as well: kzbin.info/www/bejne/p2Gad3-doL6nhMU I hope to see you around in my other videos! :)

@Kestony
@Kestony 4 жыл бұрын
Hello Matei, thank you for your question. The position is winning for white due to the following reasons: black's king is exposed, unsafe and in the open center without the right to castle in completely open position; white has more developed pieces and can develop initiative against the black's king which is fatal and will result in black losing material soon; black has no counter because white's king is safe; white is much more active. Once you get to a certain level you understand that both you and your opponent know how hopeless black's position, and there is no point in torturing yourself anymore. However, if one does not understand why black is lost, it makes sense for him to continue the game and at low levels any outcome is possible

@floppydengu7949

The position is just awful for black. He can never castle, his king is dislodged into the center of the board so there's mating opportunities, bishop can take the undeveloped knight for free, black's dark square bishop has to watch over B7 so long as the queen is standing where she is, and like in the other variations white still made more space for his undeveloped pieces than black did.
