The strings on this instrument are designed like Classical Guitar Strings in that they're nylon with the bass strings being nylon wound in metal

Hello Murat. First I want to thank you for these tutorials and demonstrations. These are really invaluable and I truly appreciate your professionality and willingness to do this. I just got a Turkish oud and I am having a problem timing it. According to some Turkish oud instructors, the top first two pegs are the ones that the first pair of the strings are tied to (Re/D). But that's not the case on this oud I just got. It is a cheap oud, I must admit, but I think the strings should've been attached to the right pegs. Of course, I can change that myself. Having said that, my question is are the first pair of the strings made to make a different sound than the second pair above it? Or does it make a different sound because of tunning? They look exactly the same to me. Because I am thinking that if each pair is made especially to make a particular sound then it seems like the maker of my oud was a bit careless when he strang the oud. Any comments or suggestions from you would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks=) They shouldn't be exactly the same. The 2nd string should be thicker. You tune a high string low by making it too loose, but the sound quality will be bad. If you try to tune a low one high the string might snap.

I've always thought that playing guitar and oud is the hardest thing in the world. I still think the same way. 😟

If you buy an egipcian oud can you tuned it either way, arab or turkish? What oud you recomend for startes?

If you have an Arab oud, if you try to tune to Turkish tuning, you will seriously damage your oud. If you tuned to Arab tuning on a Turkish oud, the strings will get too loose and might play out of tune. If you are interested in purchasing an Arab oud, look at Maurice Shehata's site. He makes student models.

What if you’ve never played a stringed instrument before I don’t get the whole half step full step terminology 😅

Hmm. Half step is like two frets on a guitar, whole step is one. Half step is next finger, whole step is two fingers away. Beyond that maybe try reading about the basics first, it might be hard from videos.

So someone should learn to recognize the notes by ear to be able to find them correctly on the oud ??

Yass, eggzackly, as do the Indian musicians, but THEY always have the drone (tampura) going while they play. It takes an extra effort to go out of tune! How the 'oud players manage used to be a mystery. Now, I refer often to the sounds of the open strings to find the other notes, as with the violin. It turned out not to be nearly as awfully daunting a job as it seemed for the first few jahrs.

Утомили свои клешни так расставлять, что новичку сложно разобрать, где именно находиться палец. Этот ещё более менее.
