Had no idea that 9th Guru was shot at, that's crazy. My favorite was the discussion on how Guru Nanak is portrayed in art. I hope there is a refresh in how we depict our Gurus in art for the next generation. Guru Nanak was one of the most traveled people and was a farmer in old age, why depict him as semi-overweight lol . I think this podcast is an awesome idea to address controversial topics-younger Sikhs can see its okay to disagree and accept other views exists, like Guru jis marriage. Thank you guys 🙏

@basicsofsikhi could you do a topic on what is a honest living? As per the first hukamnama given by Siri Guru Gorbind Singh ji. I feel conflicted, I am 19 and currently are thinking about what is considered to be a eithcal and honest living as per Sikhi s teaching. Can we own Grocery stores that sells alcohol and meet ( feel like the obvious answer is no). Are we allowed to invest in stocks and gain interest from banks as some say the investment and return of this money is unethical. I think this is a topic that hasn't really been talked about and is one important for young ppl like myself
@x-s6002
@x-s6002 3 жыл бұрын
That's a super tough topic. I personaly think its okay to have gas starions and grocery stores. But I don't think there can be a clear answer as you have to take into account degrees of separation from what we perceive as wrong. Like were do we draw the line. If we don't own businesses that may sell alcohol, does that also mean we refuse to shop at them and not support them? It becomes very tricky. Like I consider being a truck driver one of the most honest living you can do, but you might end up shipping alcohol sometimes and not even know it. A farmer can grow and sell grapes and a third party can buy them to make wine-does that make the farmer unethical? I think the point is to try to do the best you can and know that real purity in the end can only come from Gurus kirpa. Like almost all phones come from explioted labor, but we still buy them out of necessity. We should support politics that stop this and pressure companies to have more ethical labor. I would never look down on someone for trying to make money doing the best they can you never know the situation they are in. I think some ithias say the 6th Guru fed food to the 52 rajas in jail, but didn't eat any himself because it came from dishonest means (from the king that put them in prison in the first place). I see that as Guru showing us we need to try and hold a high standard, but be practical and do your best to serve humanity in our own capacity. It might not be possible to be perfect, but try to head in that direction. Stock market in my opinion is okay. As all you are really doing is buying pieces of a company to hold onto and sell at a later date to make a profit. Its basically like buying a bunch of mangos to sell at a later date to make a profit. You're essentially turning your liquid money into assests and vice versa. If someone says stocks are unethical, then so would participating in the economy in the first place imo. Plus there are more options than ever than before to oversee what stocks you buy. You can avoid the companies you don't like and support the ones you believe are ethical.

@@sikhjustice6603 Not allowed to deal, distribute or act as an element in transportation of alcohol. If you are a truck driver, then ask the contractor about it if possible and deny if there's alcohol and reject any deal from an alcohol dealer if you are in business. Talking about stocks, Stocks are little risky and people invest in them mainly not to earn for living but to generate more income sources, basically get more money. I don't think Sikhs should do this as Sikhs eat only from hard earned money working themselves. But in stocks, you invest temporarily and if company works well, you get more and if not, you sell them. If I made a mistake, then pls forgive me. Also do Ardaas to Waheguru ji, you may get your answer in a hukamnaama!

12:50 it's not that we should stop non Sikhs especially muslims who want to come to gurdwara Sahib and do kirtan or katha as it used to happen,now the times are different, we should request them not to come UNTIL ,the fundamentalists in their community are dealt with(of course by muslims themselves with peaceful means and dialogue of course) so that their own well being sold and the well being of Sikhs are safeguarded, they themselves could be harmed by hardliners for deviating from Islam according to them, and also their anger could be vented on Sikhs as well blaming them for making muslims deviate from Islam, My opinion that's all,

Because Jesus is the only way.. I was born into a Sikh family myself. Went to the gurdwara everyday and prayed. Sikhism will not lead you to a relationship with the real God. Which he desires. The other day I read some of the grant sahib translation to see how it held upto the bible I’ve read through the years now and all the grant sahib is, is the same mantra repeated over and over then inconsistencies and things that contradict. Painting a picture of some far away god you can never personally know. Trust me only reason people won’t let it go is because of personal pride in their beliefs. Not because they know the Father. “6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life.No one comes to the Father except through me.” All you have to do is ask him into your heart and repent and watch your life change. He’ll show you the truth, Sikhism is false. Only Jesus will answer you, no guru or other deity can. My fiancée can attest to this too, she just found Yahushua recently. Coming from a Sikh family too and her life has completely changed. Give up your false beliefs and pride.

Your own pride in your beliefs/family will keep you from him. Because he resists the proud. You will not get to heaven with Sikhism, remember this. You’ll see when events start to transpire in the world here pretty soon. I’m not giving you my opinion. This is fact, you will not reach heaven without Yahushua, we are sinners in need of forgiveness. Every single other religion is hey do good things more then bad be a decent person you’ll get there one day, which couldn’t be farther from the truth. You guys severely underestimate the devil.
