As a Catholic i must say that Sikhi is a beautiful religion.
@satkhalsa72688 жыл бұрын
Thanks for saying so! I grew up Catholic and adopted Sikhism and find much beauty and inspiration in it. As I age, I appreciate both Catholicism and Sikhism so much it is hard not to agree with Guru Nanak: there is no Hindu, no Muslim (no Sikh, No Jew, No Christian, No Catholic). We are all God's children.

The sangat issue you mentioned in relation to mental health is perfect. I am curious. How do you know for sure your prophets live to be 200 years old? I heard it mentioned in a few of your street vids. Thank you.
@raajsingh511210 жыл бұрын
You've misunderstood, there were 10 gurus (enlighteners who you refer to as prophets). There were ten gurus over the span of 200yrs, none of them lived over an extraordinary age for our time except from the eighth guru who died at a very early age (can't remember exact age but definitely before the age of 15)

This is what I would like spokespersons for Sikhi to say: Abortion is wrong. Always. To deliberately kill a human is wrong. So easy to understand. If the mom is at risk, medical intervention is allowed that attempts to preserve the life of both mother and child. That is what I would like Sikh spokespersons to affirm.Logically, if it is wrong to abort a baby because she is a girl, why would it be okay for another reason? Are disabled people not human?Why bother believing in Sikhi if it provides easy answers to easy questions? "It is up to the individual.". Wow, that sounds easy to agree with from the western perspective.Hard questions are ones that have inconvenient implications, like abortion. Children can be so inconvenient. Disabled children are very inconvenient. Easy answers are convenient ones: just get rid of it. Hard answers are inconvenient: respect life from conception until death. It is very inconvenient. Of course, when Sikhi provides hard answers, we as a community need to step up to the plate and help. So Sikhs should work for and provide supports for pregnant women in need and for parents in need. We can work for the kind of society where women do not feel that abortion is the only or the encouraged choice.

+Sat Khalsa at a time when gangs are groomig young girls abortion should be permitted. consesus+counciling is the best action in each case
@satkhalsa72688 жыл бұрын
+ckzckw One doesn't start with the situation to determine the ethical best choice. One starts with the first principle and then applies that principle. If it is wrong to kill, then it is wrong to kill.
@ckzckw8 жыл бұрын
Well you can live in idealism all you want. But looking at reality and history. Abortion is a choice and is chosen no matter the legality so the best is to ensure it is available with sufficient medical support. It is wrong to murder but killing has exceptions and this is one of them. We can agree to dissagree always interesting that usually its men forcing this issue tho.
@satkhalsa72688 жыл бұрын
I appreciate that you took the time to respond to me, Regarding my gender, the percentage of men in favour of abortion is always higher than the percentage of women in favour of abortion. So, my gender does not discredit my stance. Choice is the modern solution to everything: individual choice. Contextualizing that, Sikhism views the important "choice" as whether or not to conform/harmonize with the divine will. Individuals don't have unlimited freedom like miniature gods. Freedom is not do whatever you want or decide for yourself what is wrong or right. Freedom is the capacity to harmonize willingly with the divine will or to reject the divine will. We are to honour the will of the creator so lovingly that not even a hair from our body is to be cut: how then to justify invading the vagina and uterus with a machine to tear apart the precious body of the growing child? Reality and history is one of dukh for lakhs of people, but Guru Nanak promised us union with divinity not as a mirage but as a tangible possibility if only we burn away all our selfish desires with the flame of divine love. Sat Siri Akal.
@ckzckw8 жыл бұрын
Interesting how you want to ignore the reality of life as opposed to idealism that we all aspire to. We all work towards the harmony of the Gurus' teachings, however there are different exceptions during time of war, and this is a time of war it may not be a battle ground with swords and machinery but it is a war on a different plane and as such needs to be addressed for what it is. The rape of daughters and using them as breeding cattle is an act of war, and so like the Guru learnt from his father that in order for the Khalsa to continue they must fight so this fight must also take place. What you are trying to promote makes no sense at all, council with the Guru and the individual is what is needed in each situation there is also the life of the woman too not just an unborn group of cells or feotus. Regards your gender it is simply not true, when it comes to abortion men are always pushing that it should not be allowed and especially in religious circles no matter the society. Give the daughters proper and complete counciling let them speak with women who have kept children conceived this way, women who chose to abort and also any adults who would be willing to discuss knowing you were a child from rape. Let the daughters consult Guru and each one make their decision. Personally it is clear where I stand on the matter and that is one principle that will never change, the decision will never be simple each situation is different but to force someone to give birth to unwanted child is not only additional trauma to the already traumatised daughter it is also another form of slavery.
