Thank you for bringing up archetypes and how they relate to the story. Years ago, I was restlessly channel surfing and I came upon an old man sitting in a chair. All he did was sit in this chair and talk, but what he said was so fascinating, I stopped and listened as long as he talked. He was Joseph Campbell, of course, and I just unearthed my copy of "Transformation of Myths Through Time" and I need to do some reading.

Great story as always but...I wanted to also say that although you're reducing the time you spend in mental health work, I'm glad there are people like you doing it....and wish there were more. As someone who has been in and out of MH services the number one thing that has made a difference is being treated like an individual, and a person - not a collection of symptoms or a label. Sadly I think it's getting worse and services don't have the time or capacity - meaning workers have to reduce us to something less than people just to do their jobs without despairing. Anyway - thanks for being one of the good ones :) x

I don't tend to speak about my thoughts about the poor state of mental health services on this channel, but I often do elsewhere. I have many friends of course who still work in the field and most of them are decent humans. Yet people are let down. It's a great shame.

Humblest of performance suggestions: The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, Young Goodman Brown, Bartleby the Scrivener, The Devil and Dan’l Webster, even House of Seven Gables or Scarlett Letter. Do read them as an Englishman, please. The flyover country accents, cowboy and southern drawls- hadn’t developed contemporaneously to these works. ‘Muricans sounded English, Scottish, Continental/Dutch. The Mid-Atlantic speech of Hepburn, Grant (and yes, me) was inchoate. And for the love of the Q/K’s English forego that wicked cant*, Bostonian. Xoxo, you’re fabulous,Tony.

If this was difficult writing to narrate, you certainly didn't show it. You even managed to make your accent subtly, suitably plummy. As the story went on, I was reminded of 'Full Circle ', and of 'Oh Whistle...' It seems that the brothers shared a common vision of that other world just over there, but war way over there. Of brothers I have only one. He has borderline personality disorder with an over 50 years habit of fragile narcissism (easier to enable than fight him), and ADHD. I can understand your wanting to take a step back. We would if we could. Thanks as always Tony. Back to baking bread. (Butternut with pepitas and nutmeg). 🥖🍞🥖🍞🥖
