In Rome, there is an ancient Lenten tradition. It involves visiting different prescribed "Station Churches," on each day during the period. The Basilica of Santa Sabina on the Aventine Hill is the first station on this route. Every year, Pope Francis celebrates the beginning of Lent here, under these ancient vaults.
