Basingstoke looked such an idyllic market town before the development of the concrete jungle town centre in the 1960s.

Great clips David thank you. I was born at the Shrubbery in Basingstoke in 1956 and have vague memories of going into town as a youngster with my parents who knew everyone they met. I remember my Dad used to buy his newspapers from "The Warren" and if he went for a pint, it was at "The Feathers". They would sometimes go for a Chinese meal in town, I don't remember the name but it was upstairs over a shop. I also remember the annual carnival and what a grand affair it was. We would always stand at the entrance to May Place and watch the procession go by. I also remember the military tattoos that were held in Hackwood Park, helicopters, guns, troops and lots of noise. I don't suppose you have any old film of those David?

Thank you at 72 nice to be able to go back and see the areas where we were born and played until we left in 1953.Wish there had been a picture of the escorting lambs up to the slaughter house. It was fun until we got there then we felt sad on our way home .
