I watched football since little so here you go if you want some cool info and some videos to react to: To put things into perspective Messi is basically a ''videogame character'' as stated by other world class players, a jack of all trades master of basically everything, an artist who makes world class defenders look like kids despite himself being like 5'6 as a pro athlete, he makes other offensive players look underwhelming, normally for a striker to be considered world class he needs 30+ goals and yet Messi in his best year scored 91 breaking the record that had been in place since the 70s, that season he scored by himself more goals than some teams had as a whole (this guy is a playmaker by the way). He has the most assists, is the 2nd highest scorer, has the most amount and most complete collection of collective trophies, while also having a lot of individual wards like his 8 Ballon d'ors (Golden balls) basically the MVP award but id say even more prestigious cuz how competitive and passionate the leagues are in football imo. Messi was part of the 2008-2012 Barcelona squad, the best team in football history, a team where nearly all of their members came from the Barcelona football Academy and grew up playing together since kids only for some of them to afterwards play in the main team and be considered legends in their positions. They had inmaculate Chemistry and played Tiki Taka, a playstyle they developed where the would pass constantly, fun fact, this would later inspire the GS Warriors in the NBA and they would try to emmulate it. Lionel Messi is probably the most decorated football (soccer) ⚽player in the history of the sport... He moved to Spain as a teen to join club Barcelona and won every title and accolade for that club (Spain's La Liga title multiple times... Europe's UEFA Champions League... etc.) Won the golden boot (top scorer) in multiple competitions... He won both Argentina's player of the year award multiple times... and Europe's player of the year award (the Ballon D'or) a record 8 times w/ 2 clubs - Barcelona (Spain) and Paris Saint Germain (France). However, he fell short for over a decade w/ the Argentina national team... He won the Olympic Gold for Argentina, as well as a World Youth title... but could not win a title for Argentina. He always fell short in either the World Cup or Copa America... Argentina reached the final in World Cup 2014 unbeaten but lost the final to Germany 0 - 1 in extra time. Argentina came 2nd twice in Copa America. By 2019, he had won all the major European titles w/ club Barcelona, but could not score a title for his country. That changed in 2021 when Argentina, w/ Lionel Messi as Captain, won Copa America beating Brazil 1 - 0 in the final... Argentina then won the Finalissima against UEFA champions Italy 3 - 0. And finally, Argentina won the World Cup 2022 in Qatar beating defending champions France 4 - 2 in the penalty shoot-out after the score was tied 3 - 3 after extra time in what was called the greatest World Cup final match ever w/ Messi scoring twice in that game.

Once every generation, a football ⚽(soccer) star comes along and defies the odds and captures the attention of the world... It was Lionel Messi of Argentina for this generation... Strangely, it was an Argentinian before him who also became the legend of the game - Diego Maradona in the 80's... Pele of Brazil in the 1960's. Basic rules of football ⚽(soccer): 2 teams of 11 players each, 1 goalkeeper per team who can use his arms and hands in the game, but only inside the marked penalty box. A game has 2 halves of 45 minutes each w/ a running clock (no stops)... 15 minute break between each half. Each half is given stoppage time over 45 minutes depending on how much time on the clock was wasted... For example, if the assistant ref declares that 5 minutes be added to the 45 minutes, he signals the ref and the ref has to add 5 more minutes of play before ending the half or the game. In elimination games, if the score is tied after 90 minutes of regulation play... the option is to play 2 extra time periods of 15 minutes each. If the game is still tied after 120 minutes of play, we get a penalty shoot out (or tie-breaker)... 5 players are selected from each team to take 1 penalty shot each within the box against their opponent's goalkeeper. The team to score the highest of 5 shots wins... but if the score is still tied after 5 shots, the next 5 players on the teams have to line-up to take penalties until a team gets a higher score and wins. Configurations of players can vary... a popular formation is 4 - 4 - 2 (4 defenders, 4 midfielders, 2 strikers)... Midfielders can be either forwards (attacking players) or backs (defending players) ... But since the game is one of constant motion, the players can switch positions (move forward or back) if needed... Formations can also change to 5 - 4 - 1 or even 3 - 4 - 2 - 1 (3 defense, 4 center backs, 2 center forwards, 1 striker) Strikers are tasked w/ scoring goals, but midfielders and defenders can also score if they press forward. A goal is scored only if the ball crosses the goal line marked by the posts on the endlines. If the ball lands on the goal line, it is not a goal. The game is restarted w/ the team who conceded a goal kicking off from the center. Players can use any part of their body except from the shoulder down... if contact is made w/ the ball on the arm of a player, it's 'handball'... and the ref stops play and awards a 'free kick' to the opposing team of the player from the spot where the handball was done. Fouls are varying... players who resort to kicking, pushing, pulling, tripping, etc. are called out by the ref and if a player commits a foul, a free kick is given to his opposing team... Depending on the severity of the foul committed, the ref can give the player: 1) a verbal warning, 2) a yellow card which is a written caution, or 3) a red card, which means the player is sent off... ejected from the game. His team has to play a man short for the rest of the game... A player given 2 yellow cards in 1 game is ejected w/ a red card for the 2nd yellow and suspended for the next game (possibly more, depending on his infraction) ... A player accumulating 1 yellow card each in 2 consecutive games is suspended for the next game. Verbal altercations can also draw either yellow or red cards... players (and coaches) on the sidelines can also be cautioned by the ref if they step out of line or cause a disturbance. If the ball goes out the sidelines, a throw is awarded to the opposing team of the player who knocked it out... That is, the player has to throw the ball from the sidelines back into play (the only time he can use his hands) When the ball goes out of bounds on the end lines, if an attacking player knocked the ball out... the defending team gets a goal kick from within the penalty box. And if a defending player knocked the ball out... the attacking team gets a 'corner kick' from the corner of the field, depending on which side of the goal line it went out. A penalty is awarded if an attacking player is fouled within the penalty box or if a defending player uses his arm on the ball inside the penalty box... The team awarded a penalty can assign 1 player to attempt to kick a penalty spot goal w/ only the opposing team's goalkeeper standing on the goal line to attempt to block the shot. Offside rule: this is a bit complicated... An attacking player cannot score by getting ahead of the game. So, 2 linesmen are assigned on the sidelines to flag when the ball goes out of play or when an attacking player is 'offside'... That means, an attacking player cannot be receiving the ball from his team when he is the only player closest to the goal line besides his opposition goalkeeper. The linesmen have to observe if an attacking player is positioned ahead of the play with no defending players in front of him when he gets the ball... the attacking player is flagged offside and a free kick is given to the defending team... Nowadays, even if a lineman misses an offside call, there is now a VAR (video assistant ref) who can evaluate if someone who scored was offside and rule out the goal... or rule a goal valid if the attacking player was actually not offside. Attacking players have to be level with (or behind) the defending players if they do not want to be flagged offside and score goals. Substitutes: Coaches can switch out players during the game if a player is injured or the coach wants a fresh player on his team... Once a substitute enters the game, that player has to do the rest of the game. There is a limit to how many subs a coach can call in 1 game. The game is a constant motion play and boring games can be when few chances r created... and exciting games are when the teams go all in for the action and u see the teams going back-and-forth trying to score goals.

in tournaments it starts of as a group stage with 4 teams in the group, u play each team twice once in your city/country and once in the opponents city and country. A win is worth 3 points, a draw 1 and a loss 0. The 2 teams with the most points goes into the knockout stages where there is 5 rounds and 32 teams. In the knockout stage its two games again but this time the score from the first match gets brought over to the second match, as in if it was Barcelona v Milan and the score in Milan was 2-0 the score in the second game in Barcelona would start at 2-0. the final and semi final is only one match in a neutral stadium.
