Thank you. I follow Palmer& Hughes technic , use finger 3 and 2, sometime use finger 4 & 3. I saw you do here finger 3 & 2 . I like it .

I really appreciate this demonstration, I learn independently from the Palmer Hughes but it is better to hear the patterns and styles.

Beginner question.. you say always lead with middle finger... another teacher said to learn to lead with 4 as well. Do you agree?

I've been playing accordion for 62 years now...... And I can testify that it's a matter of personal preference as to which finger you use for your bass buttons. I use the middle finger..... It's more comfortable and it makes sense for me, and it frees up the other fingers to handle the chord and counter bass buttons. Most accordion teachers tend to prefer the fourth finger (ring finger) leadoff method. I'm sure that either way works well enough.

I'm a beginner on accordion, but otherwise very experienced in music especially guitar and piano, so I'm not totally a beginner. Anyway, what works better for me is leading with ring finger because this puts the middle finger on the major chord and the pointer finger on the minor chord and the pointer is also an easy reach to the dominant 7th chord. However, it's terribly difficult to play the counterbass row with the pinky, so in that case I lead with the middle finger. I learned in another video that it used to be taught to lead with the middle finger and nowadays it's the ring finger. It seems to me that the determining factor of which finger to lead with depends on what you plan to do afterwards, i.e. whether you plan to follow the root with a major chord or a minor chord or the counterbass. When I play the root with my ring finger and major chord with my middle, it's easy for me to cross over and play the "5" note with my index while keeping my middle finger planted on the major chord, but this is also because as a guitarist I have really good dexterity and maneuverability with the fingers on my left hand, so there's that. So yes it really is a matter of preference. In all my years of music playing I've learned that everybody does things slightly differently. Everybody's hands and fingers are different, whether large or small or skinny or fat or whatever combination. So whatever allows you to play most comfortably and efficiently is what's best for you 🙂
