By the looks of it I can fairly say its Parsott Iswed "Maltese variety" or a seedling from this variety. Has similar weight, shape and its a common fig producing only 1 main crop. The tree itself is one of the biggest among fig trees. Taste wise one of the best exactly as you described it. Theres also a sub variety known as Parsott abjad (white) which is the same but white instead of black of excellent taste as the black one. The white variety is said to be the biggest fig tree among them all. The parsott abjad is said by many to be the king of figs for its taste, vigour and productivity. Both are ancient top notch varieties.

Reminds me a little bit on Pastilliere (colour of skin and inside, leaf pattern, moderately sweet). Nevertheless fruit size and late ripening does not match. Probably no fig for the German climate.

This fig variety is called Bass' Favorite Fig. My friend Bass, a fig grower in Pennsylvania, reported he is unsure of its origin as he lost the tag with the name for his tree and he gave it this name.

Does this fig need pollination?
@Figaholics3 жыл бұрын
No. I got this from Bass in Pennsylvania where he has fruited it. Descriptions of all varieties and comments about caprification requirements (to the best of my knowledge) can be found at www.figaholics.com/cuttings.htm

Nice variety I tried to make the order in the first hour but its gone unfortunately hope to see it limited next year Any way i made an order with different varieties and im looking forward
@Figaholics3 жыл бұрын
We do not plan on putting limits on this order as our quantity is adequate to reasonably meet customer demand to the extent possible. We offered two sizes this year, a quantity of 30 cuttings that were quite fat in size and we had 21 orders for those that depleted the supply in 4 minutes and 36 seconds. We also have a more normal size, 101 cuttings, and sold all of those to 64 customers in 18 minutes and 47 seconds. In the first hour we had 1,180 orders. We do not have enough trees of every variety to meet demand unless we raise prices significantly and customers certainly don't want that. Some customers think limits on order sizes will eliminate all of the problems in getting the cuttings they want but that simply is not the case. When we have over a thousand orders in an hour there is no way we can ever supply the needs of every customer. Good luck in your quest for this variety!

The BLACK BOURGEASSOTTE (Maltese = Parsott iswed. = brogiotto nero). The leaves are frequently almost entire, or imperfectly lobed with obtuse segments. The tree is often middling in size, but is vigorous and very productive. The fruits are broad, top-shaped or flattened, with a short and slender stalk, and ripen slowly. They are dark violet, almost black at maturity, with circular netting or fissures of the skin. The pulp is dark red, very luscious and sweet. The first fruits ripen about mid-August, and maturation is prolonged until October or even later. The tree does not require caprification. This is one of the best figs for the table.

Thanks for your input. I grow Brogiotto Nero and it is different than Bass Favorite Fig. Brogiotto Nero is more oblate shaped.

You have to live in California with access to the fig wasp to get figs like that unless you manage to figure out how to keep them alive during the winter. Also dry/hot climate!
@amykinsey51063 жыл бұрын
@@ofon2000 this fig doesn’t require a fig wasp. It is common & will grow outside of California.
