Bass Fishing With a Baitcaster That Was Sent To The Show!

Today I am bass fishing with a baitcaster that was sent to the show! I am test driving a SixGill Wraith using a Texas rigged creature bait. I spool the reel with 12 lb test mono, and start fishing. I get a bite early on, but miss the fish because I didn't check my drag. After dialing the reel in a bit better, I get back to it. Shortly after, I catch my first largemouth bass of the day. About ten minutes later, I catch another bass. This baitcast reel has a few issues, but I don't know its past. I don't think its the right for me, but it did catch fish.

Not sure if it was the particular make or if it was just super used. But it sounded to me almost like it was used at one point to fish salt or brackish waters and was never fully cleaned and oiled. Either way it was able to pull a few catches from the drink. That first miss was very relatable though lol. I'm so guilty of making this same mistake multiple times over. Even the most experienced of anglers can forget the basics in our excitement to get fishing. Real wins and real failures are always portrayed on your channel which is why the majority of us love your show. KIR brother!!

Alex, you are correct, that reel was used...twice. It is supposed to have ceramic bearings in it. Maybe send it to I-Fish and have him check it out. Thank you for the honest review.

​@RealisticFishing Hybrid ceramic bearings are generally run dry, which makes them a little noisy. The Hybrid Ceramic bearings will be the bearings on the spool and inside the side plate, and you could try adding a drop of nice thin bearing oil. Also, this reel has centrifugal brakes on the spool, as well as a magnetic brake dial on the side plate. What did you have the centrifugal brakes set at Alex? Seems as though it might have had all 6 pins activated. Try setting 3 on/3 off, then start with magnetic brake on max and slowly work it back down til you hit the sweet spot. You might even be able to get the centrifugal brakes down lower than 3 pins, it really just depends on how strong each respective brake is. Love the show mate!

The Wraith has centrifugal brakes along with magnetic brakes and hybrid ceramic bearings and yes they are loud

​@RealisticFishing Take the side plate off, and there are 6 pins on the side of the spool. Pushed in to the centre is off, pushed out to the outer edge is on. Generally I start with half on, half off, mag brakes at max and slowly work the mag brake back off til i start to get an overrun, then go back up one click on the mag brake usually sorts it out

The cheap reals I get online make the same sound out of the box. They'll break in after a few trips. Grease her up and do a few days of bombing a big rattletrap out. It worked for mine. Also looks like the water reseced well there. Cleaned up nicely from the flooding.👍👍👍😄😄😄

I love my Ozark trail reels. Both the bait caster and the spinning reels are smooth as silk and cast forever. I bought them both because of this very show. Keepin it realistic.

It's loud because it has ceramic spool bearings. Whatever you do don't oil them. The Wraith is a bit older now but the Arrival reel Sixgill makes is a newer model made in the USA and is pretty great! Been nothing but happy with the Arrivals until I lost them to a fire. Had them paired with their made in USA Series 6 rods. Anyways, keep it realistic. 👍🏻 Edit: I had a Wraith too..wasn't very impressed with it either. The Arrival blows it away.

Happens to the best of us. I lost a bass that was probably around 2 lbs because i forgot i was using a different set up that day and forgot to drag check. I had it wayyyyyy too tight for a bass.

Woohoo!!! Another video drop from Realistic Fishing. Looks like you got sent to you a really nice baitcaster. I have the Ozark Trail OTX Pro baitcaster but I rarely use it, not because it's not a good combo but because it is right hand retrieve and I retrieve with my left hand plus left handed baitcaster reels are a bit pricey at retail stores if you can find one. So I will give Temu a try for a quality left handed reel. Tight lines and keep it realistic.

Those Sixgill reels are so finicky when trying to set-up. I used to have one and it was more of a headache then it's worth. Finally, had gave up on it and sent it back.
