You are a hero, Jeff! Being a bass-bari can make finding good tips for my specific voice type difficult.

A little trickier than some of the other warm ups but I really liked it and think it was great ear practice, saving this one! Thank you, bass here.

I listened to the exercises accompaniment for ear training. Good to know where pitches are. Then I was inspired to go listen to Sam Ramey, George London and Ezio Pinza. Taking full advantage of the channel!

I've been coming back to this one. Today I unlocked a new level for myself, though. My peak loudness shot up a few decibles, enough to make my room ring. Something about the way I engaged my core. Also, I seem to be recruiting a "wet and fluffy" part of the top-back of my mouth. I'm hearing some gnarly overtones. They sound kind of like acid-house leads (I produce music and love playing with sound design). It'd be so cool to have a full video without any of the guide tones for an extra challenge!

Hi Jeff, is there any way you could make some advanced, fast-paced baritone practices that are moving a lot between notes and spaning the entire range?
@JeffRolka3 жыл бұрын
There are quite a few already, but I'm always happy to do more! That being said, I often, in the full range videos, don't cover quite as much of the low end. I'll release a new video in the next few weeks that does a better job of getting through the entirety of the baritone range! kzbin.info/aero/PL2mQP7sE6PHi79SBAYXfILPTxop03CV2J Thank you! Jeff

@@JeffRolka amazing! Thank you! Do you have any breathing exercise videos? I find myself getting out of breath when singing in the studio.

Bass are so few that if one of them can sing in tune in few days has a job. :)

Thanks Jeff! I've just been through this exercise; when I descend below E2, I lose the singer's formant. I can reliably go down to C#2, albeit sounding duller, and sometimes I can descend to C2, B1 or even Bb1 on a good day. If you can think of an exercise that might help with this, or even suggest a video intended for another vocal fach that I could adapt, that would be great!
@robynrox Жыл бұрын
Actually, never mind that - I think it's just a matter of practise. I just repeated the exercise and was doing rather better at the tones below E2 - and in any case, I don't usually need those.

Jeff, I have a question. Should the tone stay consistent from beginning to end? I find that at the beginning, the tone is much softer and smoother. As I get louder, in order to get "as loud as I can", the tone changes to much more "opera"-sounding one. I'm not sure if I'm doing it right.
@JeffRolka3 жыл бұрын
There may be a misunderstanding here. I specifically mention making a crescendo, but not ever 'as loud as you can.' That would be inconsistent with the practice and ultimately self-defeating. Keep making gradual crescendos such that your tone, intonation, and overall vocal quality remain consistent. Over time, your overall volume will increase organically, as resonance and release allow for it. Best, Jeff

You got into the subtle nuance of bass vocalization that I've been seeking as far as embodied resonance, a sense of lightness of being, expression through subtle vibratory attunements. Amazing. One thing that could be an interesting: collab with a bay area bass vocalist. Could be a dedicated premium lesson collection even with some teasers on KZbin. I'll keep thinking though about where you might go from here. My sense is this lesson sits in a very unique space in your collection right now, big ups!

Thank you so much, Rylan! I appreciate it! Keep me up to date on your thoughts about a collab. I'm always interested to hear what you're thinking! Thank you! Jeff

Hello dear Jeff again. I have long wanted to ask you about the Adam's apple problem. The fact is that at mid / high notes, the Adam's apple starts to go up automatically and clamps the sound. No matter how hard I tried to keep it in a neutral / low position, it still goes up. Do you have any tips / video on controlling the Adam's apple? With love from Russia. Evgeny.
@JeffRolka3 жыл бұрын
Yes, I do! Have a look at this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eqO0kKacbKujZs0 I used that link, since this is a bass range video, but the other fachs are available too! Thank you! Jeff

The question I have is whether and how to do this exercise with just instead of equal tempered 3rds and 5ths.
@JeffRolka3 жыл бұрын
Your ear, unless you have absolute pitch, will almost certainly gravitate to the just intonation of the intervals. That's part of the reason why I don't play the note that you're intended to sing in the video. As to whether you should or not, that's a topic for a much longer discussion. For me, the practice is well worth it in discovering and feeling resonance and blend. Great question! Thank you! Jeff
