Bro, thank you so much for watching. Thank you for reacting to this one, I dug your takes on it all. You're the first reactor I have seen who noticed the Grunt voice for what it was. Getting to randomly perform that and the plasma grenade (along with Red Team/Blue Team) was possibly my favorite part of making this whole thing. Also....Thank you for giving credit to the memorial message at the end. It means a lot to know our brother's story is still being shared.

I'm truly honored that you took the time to listen and comment, and I'm so glad to hear you enjoyed my breakdown! Seriously, one of my favorite a cappella pieces all-time (which is saying a lot) -- much love to you, VoicePlay, and everyone involved.

Fun bit of Halo lore, the Unggoy (aka, grunts), believe in reincarnation, and that "Not again" is a grunt believing he is a reincarnation of a grunt previously killed (allegedly by Master Chief). Always remember, Spartans never die, they are just missing in action. Keep a controller handy...I'm sure your brother is waiting to play co-op with you all again.

And another great, similar quote from Claude Debussy: "Music is the silence between the notes."
@krystofdayne
@krystofdayne 5 ай бұрын
@@maeco7 I went a bit of a rabbithole researching this quote, and apparently, it's only really Debussy that said this. It has apparently been misattributed to Mozart. To make it easy, I'll just paste this from WikiQuote (from its Claude Debussy page): *Music is the space between the notes.* - As quoted in _Turning Numbers into Knowledge: Mastering the Art of Problem Solving_ (2001) by Jonathan G. Koomey, p. 96; since at least 2010 similar statements are also sometimes attributed to Mozart, and a similar remark, apparently one of Ben Jonson, is quoted in "Notes to _Cynthia's Revels,_ in _The Works of Ben Jonson: With Notes Critical and Explanatory, and a Biographical Memoir_ (1875), edited by William Gifford, Vol. 2, in notes to p. 223, on p. 551: _Division,_ in music, is "the space between the notes of music, or the dividing of the tones." - Unsourced variants: - Music is the silence between the notes. - The music is not in the notes, but in the silence between. - The music is not in the notes, but in the silence between them.

No exaggeration, this might be my favorite piece ever by VoicePlay, and among my favorite a cappella covers all-time 👀 I cannot get over the combo of firework vocals, video editing style, and the added creativity that deviates from the original to make it their own. Not to mention, this one kicked my right in the nostalgia nards (probably as hard as PTX's Hallelujah kicked me in the emotional nards). BRAVISSIMO!!!

see because Scott was the original beatboxer ofthe band when Layne was baritone and when he left to pursue an acting career Layne stepped up to beatboxing now coming back for this tribute they had 2 beatboxers in band so red team - blue team was a beatdown battle

At 7:34 Cesar actually went into an overtone note, which really shows how talented this group is.
@samuelzuleger5134
@samuelzuleger5134 2 жыл бұрын
To answer the question, the "belting" by Cesar (starting at 5:52 in this reaction, 0:53 in the VoicePlay video) isn't actually words, but is part of the Halo: CE original sound track. I think (might have to check) it is part of the second track, called Truth and Reconciliation (after the third level of the game). If I remember correctly, the story behind it is that Marty O'Donnell, the original composer, wanted to add something extra to the track and had been up way too late for way too many days. In a spark of inspiration, he just started recording himself belting those sounds. They ultimately kept those sounds in as part of the background music. If you listen for it, you'll catch it. In VoicePlay's version, they highlight it.

This is such an Epic Masterpiece! 🤯🔥💗. For some reason, it doesn't get the attention it deserves! Maybe it has to do with non-Halo players not appreciating it?? The arrangement, vocals, harmonies, video, editing, production, everything is freaking amazing!!! Scott was one of VP founding members, together with Geoff, Layne, Earl and Mykal. Scott was the beatboxer at the time. I believe he left around 2003 to pursue his acting career (kudos to Scott!). His message at the end is very touching!! Thanks for this analysis, Peter!! 💖

Great reaction, you bring such a wealth of information on the structure and what each of the guys are doing. You might consider taking a look at "Just Sing" please be sure to turn on the captions. Voice Play plus lots and lots of past members and collaborators. Scott Porter is in it too. Scott was the original beatboxer, and Layne the baritone. When Scott left, Layne stepped in as beatboxer. Which puts a spin on the Red Team-Blue Team Scott and Layne do. Scott gets blown up after he starts beatboxing. There's a slight grin on Layne's face as he blows up the upstart who is beat boxing on his turf. Arrangement by Layne who also did the video editing.

It's great you watched. Scott is one of the founding members. Yes he was the original beat boxer of the group. It shows in the 'red team/blue team' section, as that was him & Layne doing 'sounds'. In fact when Scott left, Layne had to learn to cover his spot beat boxing. Scott's main focus now is acting. He was in Friday Night Lights, The Good Wife, Hart of Dixie, Scorpion & Lucifer along with movies, episodic TV (Law & Order among others) & ironically has done voiceovers for multiple video games. He's sung with them on occasion over past few years, this is one of them.

Enjoying reaction. FYI: As well aware, this is a video game theme Martin O'Donnell is an American composer known for his work on video game developer Bungie's series, such as Myth, Oni, Halo, and Destiny. O'Donnell collaborated with his musical colleague Michael Salvatori for many of the scores; he has also directed voice talent and sound design for the Halo trilogy. Watching the VoicePlay video with that in mind, see how it's becoming more animated, popping in/out & morphing into each other. It's not exactly detailed as Halo but it's good editing. - It would help if you listened to the original theme to hear how close they come to it even integrating the other sequels nuances into the theme. kzbin.info/www/bejne/Zpu7hXV3fNtskLM --- After, re-listen with eyes closed. It's extremely close an a capella group can get. The central focus of the franchise builds on the experiences of Master Chief John-117, one of a group of super soldiers code-named Spartans, and his artificial intelligence (AI) companion, Cortana. The original trilogy centers on an interstellar war between humanity and an alliance of aliens known as The Covenant (hence red/blue teams). The Covenant, led by their religious leaders called the Prophets, worship an ancient civilization known as the Forerunners, who perished while defeating the parasitic Flood. Each sequel gets into more detail regarding the wars & alien beings. A few things: - Scott Porter I believe became Master Chief John-117. He has the build for it. Notice how he's centered a lot in this video and ends the video alone. [Understanding the CGI of the video game the sequels were animated using the CGI at the time, as each sequel came around, they became more advanced, smoother & realistic. - Scott does sing, as stated before & in other comments, he was the original beat boxer of the group not Layne (he's also one of founding members). One can hear Scott & Layne doing the blue/red teams section with their beat boxing sounds.

Never played Halo so the theme music is new to me, but it's still amazing. Some really excellent riffs and near-scats. Voiceplay is really fun to watch, almost always. But as a Pentatonix fan, I have to comment on the video, because it's startlingly similar to "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy" which they released in 2014. The exact same design, and several of the exact same elements. PTX won their second Grammy for it. I am uncertain how to take this similarity.

I bought a Xbox one and halo because of this song and the message after! I am connecting with all of my old buddies that used to bring TVs over and 50 foot cable to have a land party.

Silence is very important. The silence between the notes are as important as the notes themselves- Mozart

Can you make an entire cover of the Halo 2 theme song with just you? That would be the coolest thing EVER. I feel like you definitely have the skills to do it

Cesar DeLaRosa is the "new" guy and he is a genuinely awesome and cool human. He also sings with EJ Cardona (from Voctave) in another band. (Hawkmoon...I think?)

Hawkmoon Creative is an entertainment company. The groups Cesar and EJ are singing together in are Element and The Vybe. I think Hawkmoon represents them or something like that.

I'd love to see you do a reaction and analysis of PTX Dance of the Sugar plum Fairy, they have some similar video editing so that may be where the inspiration came from for VoicePlay. I don't think you caught it but briefly in this song Ceaser did some overtones sounds as well I believe in the middle around 7:30 he also did something that may also be more at about 11mins in.

That quote of Mozart about the space between the notes: he said this in english in 2005 and in german in 2013. sadly he passed away in 1791. Also Beethoven of Debussy never said something like that. It is a myth 😮

Not sure if it was intentional or not, but at 11:02 here, that little slide Geoff does sounds like the shields when they recover in the game too. The only difference is that the shield recover slides up the scale and Geoff is sliding down.

Do you only react and analyse a cappella and more vocally centred music, or do you also delve into other music that are primarily instrumental like jazz fusion, etc? Cool analysis.
