What a great channel to come across. It's a primitive instrument but not so easy to master (and I'm saying this as a violinist) so it's nice to hear someone who can actually play.

One of your best for sure! It would be great to have this in a cleaner, "studio" recording.

You create a wondrous sound. I enjoy your expression greatly. Is there anywhere to purchase/commission a bass taglharpa, or is it something which is crafted?

Sincerely appreciate you my friend! I just recently started playing and I have a quick question as for the strings that I have they are nylon with multiple strands should I lay them flat or twist before attaching to the Key? Hopefully this makes sense and I look forward to more videos!
@nikon.b.folkpromrak2 жыл бұрын
Hey!! By the way, I have never done, as you said, without twisting ... this is how the strings are pulled on the muriin huur. Also, they are combed to incredible evenness. On talharpa they do it differently: they twist the bundles of hair / nylon very strongly. Well, very tightly so that there are no extraneous noise. Thank you for looking forward to more videos. On one of my new tools, I will stretch and comb the tufts of nylon without twisting. Compare the sound. I think in about a couple of weeks.

you are so good, your playing is so unique . i've just started and having such a hard time - with the bow i think - not sure - i get great notes one day, the next nothing just raspy noise ????
@nikon.b.folkpromrak2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! You need to practice a lot with the bow, learn to feel it. And do not forget to rosin your hair. Need lightness in the hand, wrist. Relax your shoulder, you don't need it yet.

Awesome and an absolute inspiration. Building my third tagelharpa (1st one was 3 strings, second one 2 strings and the newest one will be a bass-tagelharpa) right now and it's amazing how much you learn with each instrument you build. Where to place the soundholes, the bridge, lenght of the strings, room for the fingers at the grip etc etc. The only thing I'm still struggeling with, are the strings. I tried single 1mm nylon, twisted 0.5 mm nylon and cello-cords, but nothing really hit THAT sweet spot. Sometimes they sound great, sometimes scratchy. Is there a trick to it? A certain way of twisting them? Do you have a tip when it comes to the strings and how to get them working properly on a regular basis? Other than that, it is really enjoyable to listen to you playing. Thanks for the great content.

Hello, friend I recommend 0.15 or 0.2 mm nylon for the bass talharpa and in general. For a cello mensura. counting: for a thin string - 40-50 threads, for an average 80-100, for a thick 140-200. It always turns out a different sound. I twist it very tightly. I have problems (or it's my taste) - I don't like the sound of a twisted bass string, so you can notice a string from a cello on this instrument. You can also use horsehair, but it is very fragile. And I do not know where to get it so long, up to a meter long, to place it on a bass talharpa. But nylon also works well

My calculation is for the quinto-quart D A D system, or higher/ lower by a tone from this form. The small octave of the note has a thin string, the medium one has a large one, and the thick one has a large octave.

@@nikon.b.folkpromrak This helps tremendously. I was wondering about the single silver string but it makes sense to combine them. I guess it's time for thread-fiddeling. Thank you very much for the quick and helpful reply. The first drop of the next drink goes to you.
@nikon.b.folkpromrak2 жыл бұрын
@@bigsloggo Yes, you'll have to tinker. It will take a very long time to cut off one thread, making a bundle of them. It may take 2-3 hours. It would be much easier to count the required number of hairs from the bundle. And then cut, forming a new bundle. But horsehair is too short for bass talharpa. I may not know, but maybe you can buy a special hair in bunches, long. Much longer than is usually sold for bows. But this is just my guess, I didn't look for it myself. Nylon is good for its strength. But horsehair makes all the work a thousand times easier Yes, you're welcome, if anything, contact

@@nikon.b.folkpromrak Thank you for the offer. Fiddeling with the threads can indeed be exhausting, so I optimised it. I had a spare piece of wood, about 100 cm long. I simply drilled a hole in one side at both ends and put a small rod (about 10 cm) in each at a 90 degree angle (it's a flat U-shape, a bit like the rack at "Tablet weaving"). Now I can simply uncoil the string from the spindle (two threads for a complete round), cut one side, tie it together, cut the other side and tie it together and I'm done. This technique let's you do the average string in about 5-7 minutes (if you do not loose count). Thanks again for the quick reply and the offer. It is very much appreciated.

I recently bought a bass tagelharpa, and have been scouring the web for tuning tips and general advice. You play SO well! It would be an honour to learn from you, would you mind sharing some tips?
@nikon.b.folkpromrak2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your trust, it is really valuable. what advice can i give? - pay a lot of attention to the rhythm - this is in the hand that holds the bow. The bow must move confidently. Work more for this with your forearm, relax your shoulder. Move your hand more at the elbow with the bow. You do not need to fully use it at first. And if you are not sure of the correctness of the note, extract individual notes more often, watching the tuner. Over time, you will understand which musical intervals sound best. I play exceptional by ear, for now. therefore, I can’t say anything sensible in this. Well, what else - do not forget to rosin the bow, watch the escaping system of the instrument so that everything sounds. Watch more of the skillful guys playing, there are enough of them here on KZbin. behind their technique, behind their fingers, behind the sound. Also, do not forget to relax the hand that holds the bow.

@@nikon.b.folkpromrak Man, you're a champion! What I'm mostly looking for is tuning information. All I play is guitar, self-taught, so I've zero understanding of scales and notes. THe manufacturer of the tagelharpa said to tune in A D A, however there are various different sources that give different options. Maybe one day you could do a video with different tuning sets? There's *nothing* out there where an amateur can listen and just tune by ear. Thank you so much for your wonderful response, it's all very helpful!
