It is the deepest (1642 m/ 5387 ft) and oldest lake on earth (25 million years). It is over 620 km/385 miles long and is shaped like a giant crescent moon. In some places the lake is so wide (80 km) that you can no longer see the other shore. The transparency and purity of the water is unique. Up to a depth of 40 m/131 ft one can see fish, green stones, plants. An incredibly rich and unique flora and fauna arose in and around Lake Baikal. Baikal is also considered the largest freshwater reservoir in the world - its contents could supply all of humanity for 50 years. Over 300 rivers flow into the lake, but only one river, the Angara, originates from Lake Baikal. People have lived in this area for more than 20,000 years and have believed in the powerful energy of the lake for thousands of years. Lake Baikal has always been one of the holiest places in Asia. The local Buryats call “their” lake the “Sacred Sea”. One of the most famous personalities of Buryat descent was the Hollywood star Yul Brunner. There are many legends surrounding Lake Baikal: a huge lightning bolt is said to have struck this part of the world and cut through the earth down to the groundwater. This water then flooded many valleys and mountains and became Lake Baikal. An international team of researchers (led by the Max Planck Institute for the Science of Human History in Jena, Germany) has discovered the oldest connection to date between the inhabitants of Siberia and the Indians of North and South America. Esse video é o ost de um filme que vai estreia em 19 de outubro o nome do filme é O Espirito de Baikal, a sinopse é que após a perda da mãe o pai leva o menino para ficar com o avô na região de Baikal na Siberia e no meio d e uma tempestade, eles se separam e o menino corre perigo de morrer de hipotermia, perdido no lago congelado Baikal, é quando ocorre um fenômeno místico que o espirito bondoso do lago guia e ajuda o menino a encontrar o caminho para sair do perigo. Sendo que na região do lago Baikal tem espíritos bons e espíritos maus.
