You definitely should put 3 to 4 inch pebbles in the pool pond to cover floor. it would help with building micro organisms to get established and the biomechanics of nutrients in the pond. It would also help the pond stay clearer and help with having a spike in ammonia... etc

Pretty sure there's plenty of bacterias to go around in a big pond like that outside in the heat and don't think he is pulling water out just adding. Also big plecos like that will have much easier time eating on a bare bottom then on small pebbles, big chance they will just eat on the sides and just trim off the bottom when the algie grows to tall.
@mickehaglund41192 жыл бұрын
So cool to see you catch plecos. I don’t see the point for fish stores in Florida, you can just go out and catch anything. Over here in Sweden, we easily would pay over 100 bucks for a pleco that size. I vote for no sand in the pond. Looks better when it’s all clean at the bottom!

the plecos are a really cool fish but they actually don't eat much algae at all. if you want to have a clean pond either try a few bristlenose plecos in there or maybe try some MANUAL LABOR!
@invaderjoshua62802 жыл бұрын
Common plecos do eat algae and a lot of it. They also eat other stuff though to. But that didn’t mean they won’t eat the algae.
@EliasFishroom2 жыл бұрын
@@invaderjoshua6280 I think you are getting confused with the sailfin Pleco which looks very similar and eat some more algae than commons. Most large plecos will just graze on algae while their main diet is either wood or meat. If you want to have a clean pond, the best thing to do is to get better filtration, clean it your self, or just let it be. Just because a pond looks dirty doesn't mean that it's bad. As long as you maintain good water quality, you have a healthy pond. Most rivers and lakes in nature have some mud and things on the bottom.

Plecos love wood it's part of their diet in the wild. They are found by the dozens on fallen trees.
@noddy1762 жыл бұрын
They do love the wood to shelter in, but they actually NEED the tannins from the wood to digest their food.

@user-uq4ly6fp6m2 жыл бұрын
@@Sebecean was a couple years back when we were ignorant about them just being algee eaters lol. algae wafers, sliced cucumbers, sinking pellets, they'll eat pretty much everything, they should be fine aslong as they get a balanced-ish diet.
@Sebecean2 жыл бұрын
@@user-uq4ly6fp6m "lol"? 40 years in hobby. Giving any animal foods that it wants to eat delivers better results. Plecos can get most of what they need from the rando feedings of protein rich foods fed to the rest of the fish. [tubifex live or frozen wont last long in tanks with Pleco] Adding bog wood and plant fiber usually reduces the bad behavior. "so keep an eye out after all the algae is gone." sounds like you observed that already. Strange you'd discount it.

Plecos, especially commons such as the ones you caught need veggies, a steady supply of protein, and algae to have a balanced diet. They need wood to rasp on to digest food as well. They’re invasive as fuck in Florida though so good on you for removing them from the pond. It’s completely insane that you can go and catch them from normal bodies of water there.

Saya pernah kerja di pertanian, di daerah sekitar cangar suasananya ngeri apalagi kalo hujan.. .. Siang bolong .. Sekitar jm 12 an..

The man who described these fish, Mr Kner first named them Pterygoplichthys: Greek, pterygion, diminutive of pteryx = wing, fin + Greek, hoplon = weapon + Greek, ichthys = fish, " Weaponwingfish". Besides that in some Chinese dialect they call them the " eatshitfish", for their capacity of surviving omnivorous and can even survive on faeces from other fish.. I prefer the first name..😉
