John, we've never met, but I have enjoyed your playing for many years. An integral part of the WDR sound. I wish you well in whatever your next chapter brings. Good health, good luck!

John Goldsby's professionalism, versatility, taste and musical knowledge are immeasurable. In recent years I have followed the WDR channel always paying particular attention to the work of the rhythm section: Goldsby and Dekker are solid as rocks and capable of playing any repertoire at the highest level. I wish Maestro Goldsby all the satisfaction he deserves in the continuation of his life and his musical career. It's as if a friend moved far away: at that moment you understand how important he is and how much we will miss him!!

Congratulations to a great career and so many wonderful contributions to this big band. I had the pleasure to play with John Goldsby during a master class at UNT as a member of the One O'Clock rhythm section, and I remember specially how humble he is and how supportive he is on the bandstand. A true gentleman and a wonderful jazz musician.

John, I don't have the right words to express how thankful I am to have spent hours with you and the WDR BIG BAND! I looked forward every time I saw KZbin send another wonderful composition from one of the greatest bass players and big bands on the planet. You will definately be missed by all of us around the world, and especially by me, one of your biggest fans across the pond in the USA! I wish you all the best that life has to offer you in your retirement years my friend!

I wish he brought out the 5 string Sadowsky for this last show. The sound of it on "Marquis Hill feat. by WDR BIG BAND - Ego vs Spirit" is incredible. He's one of the first people I think of who has an excellent upright and electric bass sounds along with Patitucci and Cranshaw. The Jazz Bass Book is one of the best bass book out there. Thank you for everything John!

Would you also tell us what was the Baron's Dilemma was, please? ❔
@chop19922 күн бұрын
Whe I was spending some time in the city of Baden Baden, I met a “Baron” (Freiherr) which is an old title of German nobility. This rather eccentric man told me he had just bought a huge castle, but it needed so many repairs…the moat needed digging out, the cellar was wet, the roof needed fixing…that was this Baron’s Dilemma!

Ein Verlust für die Band, aber mal abwarten was kommt.

Does one member here need any direction, even from the great Mintzer ?For me it kills the magic side of Jazz music in big band. In HIS big band, Mintzer plays , does not direct.

A lot of bandleaders conduct and/or play and conduct. For a change of pace, check out Vince Mendoza’s “Sonatina” in the beginning of the 2nd set…
