I am doing my best ( so far unsuccessfully ) to get my hands on the fimi X8 mini! I mentioned it a few months ago to s few people and knew it was coming as fimi confirmed it to me directly. No you didn't miss it John - what happened was the restrictions came into place before I had time to do it, I know other people don't care but I'm trying to keep within 500m to avoid people complaining! Then again ... For some reason I have 2/3 actual subscribers that keep hitting the thumbs down even when I do things legally! When I went to do the rural test ( I think you saw it ) the mini 2 did 4km without them which was incredible! Maybe I will do a video soon on them but generally the mini 2 will do 500m anyway as you will know.

Very useful video...It's clear that if you are flying in an Urban environment the Mini 2 (Occusync 2.0) is sooooo much better than the Mavic Mini's enhanced Wifi transmission system. In rural settings where there is little to no interference the differences between the two transmission systems would likely be much less pronounced...especially if you use a signal booster on the Mavic Mini. Just curious have you been able to confirm that the Mavic Mini does not have the ability to switch frequencies (jump from 2.4ghz to 5.8gh or vice versa) if there is significant interference? What about the ability to dynamically switch channels within the same frequency? How about on the Mini 2? If so did you confirm it yourself through testing or did DJI provide the info. I ask because I believe my Parrot Anafi at minimum can dynamically change channels (within a given frequency) if not dynamically change frequencies completely while in flight when there is significant interference on one frequency. I only mention that because given that the Mini came out several years after the Anafi I would think the Mavic Mini would also be able to dynamically switch channels and/or frequencies when needed while in flight. Assuming that the Mavic Mini is able to dynamically select it's frequency (at minimum on take off) I would still fully have expected that it would have started at the 2.4hz given two things: 1 ) At your take off point there didn't appear to be much interference (in a parking lot) given that you weren't in close proximity to any homes (and homes typically have older routers that are only 2.4ghz capable; 2) In non-congested areas (ala your take off point) 2.4ghz would be the preferred and default channel as it's signal range is much longer than 5.8ghz. But if you know that you will be flying in a very wifi congested area then 5.8ghz would be the better option (as you proved) solely for the fact that most homes routers are running at 2.4ghz and 5.8ghz channel will almost always be less congested thus giving the drone a more reliable transmission signal. If you are flying in a rural area with few if any homes then 2.4ghz frequency is going to get you much better range. I assume both your mini's conformed with CE standards vs FCC standards (i.e., you aren't using a Mini that was originally purchased in the USA or hasn't been hacked)? Also did you put your phone in airplane mode when flying the Mavic Mini? I know with the Parrot Anafi putting your device in Airplane mode makes a HUGE difference in range. Looking forward to your next test. Cheers

It's a superb example of out of the box flying. Yes the mavic mini is a fantastic drone I had one before the mini 2 and the 2nd generation just works better but the tech is newer. I would not knock the mavic mini its done what ever I needed it too in the past, But as you say it's gonna be interesting to see results of a simple cheap tranmision booster that I know work well myself. I swore I wouldn't get the Mini 2, but in the end, I couldn't resist the reliability of occusync. I do a lot of flights around cliffs, and to be honest, the original Mavic Mini just didn't cut it, both in the transmission and wind resistance departments. I've found the wind resistance to be significantly better on the Mini 2, I almost feel like I'm flying a larger drone 🤷

It certainly seems to carry more weight I agree, almost like it feels heavier in the air exactly as you said. I try my best to for across as unbiased as possible as it makes no difference to me I just like fair tests - ocusync does make things so much more simple when it comes to connections doesn't it! @lindsayheyes9253 жыл бұрын
Gavin, this video answers THE BIG QUESTION, so well done. But why doesn't the Mavic Mini pick a better channel for itself? The answer may lie in that if it only picks the channel before you fly, that choice must be based solely on noise in the immediate vicinity of the TOLP. In flight, that is irrelevant at the location of the drone - attenuation being logarithmic. So the only interference it will be measuring for choice channel must be relative to the signal strength of the uplink. However, the on-screen indicator seems to represent the downlink signal strength as received at the controller (not the uplink at the drone). Surely that could be fixed by a software update, allowing a change of channel in flight? Oh yeah, and a reminder for others not to make my mistake when using Yagi range extenders: Use manual channel selection - yagis are channel specific 🙄
@GAVINHR3 жыл бұрын
Exactly 100% that ! The channel and frequency is picked at TOLP - which is EXACTLY why I have spent so much time trying to help / educate people as to how selecting a channel which is right for the flying environment is crucial! I once got told ( I suspect wrongly ) that the mini can change channel in flight but I am yet to see evidence of it. However that being said - this shoes the strength of ocusync I guess - especially for some new or inexperienced operator, essentially you can take off and not have to worry since it's dynamic ! However adding a range extender into the mix as I have done previously as you know the Mavic mini got me further than the mini 2 on two occasions! ( The only two attempts )
