Great video. Interesting comment with removing the "O" ring on most crankbaits and jerk baits. The next question: What about "leaders" attached to those baits? Metal with snap included or Mono/Floro with a snap?

I use P Line Floroclear as a leader 15lb .. I've caught - Crappie , Bluegill, Largemouth Bass, Smallmouth Bass , Yello Perch... Sucker Fish , Catfish.. Chain Pickerl... With .. 20lb PowerPro SSV8 Braid 15lb P Line Floroclear- Leader Micro Power Clips I remove the snap rings.. Penn Battle 3 4000 Ugly Stick Gx2 I find this set up works all around for me ... of course heavier or lighter equment and tackle would work better for specific fish and size. But this set up works best for me all around ... I can bring small or lighter oe heavier tackle or gear if I need or want to ... Dan

I fish snakeheads in very heavy cover, and I use braided mainline to a fluorocarbon leader. Because of the leader, if I retie every time I change a lure, it would be a waste of leader, and it wastes time when retying lures. A small snap makes it so much easier when I am throwing out this lure then I'm throwing that lure, and it's easier. Never have trouble with algae or weeds catching on the snap, and adds an extra barrier between their teeth and my line

Hello Glenn I'm Paul i was just wondering if you think you could make a video of what you're talking about the way you tie up your rigs for just say 5 different ones okay then i appreciate this video and I'll wait and see what you come up with.Have a great day today thanks.

Always a great video, Glen! However, I don't quite agree with not using snaps for much of bass fishing & I'll try to describe why without butchering my rationale. 1st, I use a snap. Never ever will anyone see me use a snap-swivel combo connected to each other on any bait. The combos are too heavy, too bulky & too visible to really add any benefit. I'll remove crank bait rings because of how you covered it- they'll wreck a knot, period. Ovals are better but potentially weigh more than a snap does & that can change the presentation of some crank baits making them point nose down with oval split rings (as will certain snaps, if they are oversized for the bait). I'll use the smallest snap I can possibly get away with. Spinnerbaits was mentioned. I'll use a super thin wire tie as a DIY mod & wrap it around the line end of a spinnerbait to keep a snap in place. Some spinnerbaits have a loop, so that's a plus with them. For Texas or Carolina rigs (I can never keep them straight), the slip sinker is a foot or 2 or more ahead of whatever rubber. That tends to give a unique presentation because the sinker falls "thud" & lets the worm flutter back to the bottom with a sexy simmer after it's been popped. The slip sinker in a traditional rig can force the rubber to be forced to the sinker on a pop otherwise because the line simply pulls the bait to the slip sinker. Keeping the sinker ahead of the leader seems to prevent that from happening. The actions seem subtle but sometimes subtle puts a fish in the net (sorry...not quite sure how to describe this odd method) For jigs, drop shot & any kind of rubber presentation, I'll use a fluro leader, the longest I can get away with & still be able to cast with accuracy + a swivel on the other end. My mainline has the snap, & I re-tie before cast #1 of the day so the knot is fresh & main line gets a quick visual for problems. I don't use fluro as my mainline because I'm not fond of its handling overall as a mainline (though I digress into a totally different convo). This gives me multiple benefits: (a) Fluro has better abrasion resistance than my mainline braid does & that's what's dragging near the bait (b) I can feel nicks & frays on the leader extremely easily compared to braid (c) I have near invisibility benefits of fluro (I said "near", because anyone who says "fluro is invisible under water" is factually flat out wrong) (d) I can quickly change leaders because I keep 1-2 dozen pre tied at all times for various presentations. For example, for pitching/flipping I've pre-tied 3' of 20# fluro leaders with 3/0 EWG hooks, pre-tied drop shot leaders., pre-tied 1/0 circle hooks for minnows for spring pike fishing etc. (I'm borderline neurotic with leaders btw) Point is??? When 1 gets a nick or fray, unsnap, snap a new 1, put the bait on & I'm back in the water again. For metal baits, be careful when tying direct. Blade baits will cut your line, though many ship with snaps already, but not all). Use a snap on any blade bait For chatterbaits, tie direct because all that I've seen already come with a snap. Doing a snap-to-snap noticeably changes the lure's action & not in a good way. For any gum ups I do agree: Snaps grab it. There might- or might not- be an underlying advantage of a snap the way I'm using them: Sometimes (often enough that it's notable) the slime is caught by the main line's snap & leader's swivel allowing the bait to follow a "cleansed" water path. The goo is a couple feet ahead of the lure. Not always, but it works. It's the main reason musky guys troll with the rod tip in the water: the rod catches or moves the junk so the lure has a clearer path. I've just tweaked it for bass. If my snap grabs junk, so will my knot if it's exposed. I'll add a downside to be aware of also: The way I'm doing the mainline snap to leader swivel adds extra weight, pulling line down in the water. Twitch-- pause-- twitch patterns are affected because the leader has to be lifted 1st if the pause is long. It's become muscle memory with me to give it a li'l extra oomph on the twitch. It turns into a plus then because that extra "oomph" seems to actually add a little bit of an erratic pop with the next twitch start. (a bit tricky to describe though...hopefully I didn't botch the particulars) Anyhoo, this is my 2 cents worth of why I use snaps & hopefully I didn't butcher the rationale. IMHO, snaps are heavily under utilized for bass fishing. So many bass guys I know are "anti snap" but they look a bit lost when I start talking "swivels" & "leaders"...all IMHO

@finmanpoozie47562 күн бұрын
It depends on which speed clip. Tactical Angler's are top notch but stainless only. For bass, pike, walleye I'm using 20# & 40# Harmony Fishing Stealth Clips & really liking them so far. They are a recent addition to my terminal tackle. Make sure you put them on the correct direction or you'll lose baits. If you're referring to Norman Speed Lips, I'd throw them in the trash!! I tried them years ago & watched a buddy lose a couple in-line spinners mid cast because they wedged in the split ring part & flew off. Terrible experience overall. They're also stainless & HUGE...very visible. VNC Crankbait snaps were my go-to (30# = size 00). I've seen too many variations of reputable Duo-Locks deform when drawing down a Palomar knot & I've had some unhook mid cast & lost fish to find the snap opened up. IMHO, Cross Lock snaps are always way too large for the # rating. I've never experienced a deformity or opening with the VNC snap (I do need forceps on them to open & close...they are built tough!!). I've never had issues with Harmony Fishing (they test the 20# under 40# of pressure before they start to deform, per their customer service). Harmony Fishing is NJ based & the exclusive suppliers to Amazon so there's to counterfeit product risk ordering them from Amazon (counterfeits is still a major Amazon problem it seems, though I digress) Hope this helps answer what you are asking about

@NorthernMike3 жыл бұрын
If you tied directly to the blade the chatterbait wouldn't work correctly. I fish chatterbaits for Bass in Pike infested water so I use a snap swivel and connect it to their snap and now I have an inch and a half of steel in front and a rarely get broken off. I still catch a lot of big Bass with it.

@@NorthernMike How is that? so they don't see 60# braid? they don't ever see the big 5/0 hook on a fluke rig? they don't ever see treble hooks? having a little swivel will not decrease or increase bites if you are worried about them seeing it..
@NorthernMike3 жыл бұрын
@@DAVE_WHITE I guess I'm talking from my own experience. I've tried snap swivels on finesse baits. There's no question in my mind that I get more fish in the same water bodies when I'm not using them. Don't get me wrong, when I throw baits that are constantly moving I don't hesitate to use swivels because I believe they won't notice it. When a bait is just sitting there for a period of time (like a tube, etc) I just didn't get as many bites as when I tied on without a snap or snap swivel. You won't have a comparison if you don't try it both ways. To each his own- so if you think it doesn't make a difference more power to you.
