Here's my initial thoughts on Bastl Instruments Microgranny2 version 2.5 Distant Raver edition.

Summary
microGranny 2 is a monophonic granular sampler. It reads wav samples from microSD card and applies granular algorithms to them. You can also adjust start, end, sample rate (tuned or free run), crush and envelope (attack release). MIDI Input allows external control of all parameters as well as transposition of the samples, or playing individual grains by different keys.

TheDaydreamSound one idea to present to Bastl with is to make a unit that is similar, BUT, one that can is upgradeable from the Bastl website say, once, twice a year.

yea I'm loving all the tiny battery powered gear. like this the pocket operators volcas.my 404 is battery my iPad tons of synth n drum machines obviously portable I love the whole diy style and the idea of dude's in bedrooms experimenting with weird little gadgets.

Big thanks for the stupendous walk, truly revealing and patiently exposed for all audiences, including newbies like me...At 60 and two months, I´m really on the verge of buy a black unit (orange ones are discontinued) and filter with the Zoom MS-70CDR, etc...Got a little question about the files management...I guess that a easy solution is to make a backup copy of the original files and proceed to rename conveniently over that backup/backups...Even really convenient with the factory samples to memorize his position and aural properties...The originals will keep untouched...Am I wrong? Greetings from Madrid City Spain!

Does the MG do ‘one shot’ sample playback? For example, I notice that you have to hold the button for the duration of the sample. Can you set it where you simply tap a button and it plays the whole sample file while not in loop mode?

The Daydream Sound I know and since I got the Po33 I value the opportunity of instant sampling - the microgranny is one of the rare pieces with this feature and in pocketsize.

The device is quiet noisy, keep in mind. Especially if sample has silents you can hear it... Also recording is very poor and noisy too. Totally disappointment. Just chip toy, not for production.

The noise is part of the charm of these types of machines. You have to take it for what it is, and what it's meant for. It's a lofi 8-bit sampler/granular synth engine. It would be a great tool for experimental producers in the electronics genre. People who know how to use their imagination. I could think of so many uses in my studio for one of those. Will have to put it on the gas list.
