2:50 ERRATA: I'm holding channel button A and click on CLK/SYNC button saying that that this turns on/off clock sync for that channel. That's not what it does! Pressing the Channel button + CLK/SYNC turns on clock quantization for the trigger recording. By default that’s on, so every manually recorded trigger (or LFO reset or gate) is aligned to the clock (doesn’t matter whether internal or external). Turning it off enables user to record off beat patterns. The LFO SYNC is done by pressing SHIFT+CLK/SYNC. That way the knob becomes clock divider/multiplier

Tapping in trigger rhythms is crazy cool I can't believe I haven't seen that in a module before. It wasn't until you used it with drum triggers that it felt like Pam's, but after that it feels like it covers some of the same ground.

Tapping in the triggers (and then recording modulation over that) is a very nice feature

It's a tiny detail, but the inverted L layout is ingenious.

It's on the list for my future 100%. Its got similarities to Pam but also a lot of differences, that tap recording really introduces a human element that makes me want one of these very bad. Infact, pairing it with Pam seems like it will great, I imagine patching this to the CV in on Pam and use the add/subract/etc to make some cool on the fly adjustments to your Pam's patterns via that tap record. Can't wait to try it out!

Oh yes this and Pams together would be a modulation powerhouse and so much fun to try!

You know as I mixed the audio I kept that feedback in my mind the whole time and re-balanced my entire gain staging to make it sound right. Thanks again for flagging it to me!

Although its expensive, the Mnemonic Devices Juniper is similar to this but with 8 channels & an LCD screen. It has a full modulation matrix, so you can create some really wild modulations by cross modulating the channels by one another.

Oh yes that's a lovely module with a ton of power. Haven't had a chance to use one yet.

its probably worth mentioning your oscilloscope doesnt have antialiasing so the envelope shapes we're seeing look more stepped than they actually are. I bet a beginner would be confused by that.

Good point! And the screen recording software they use also adds some jaggedness to them

Ah thanks! So maybe a bad question, but I was thinking on getting marbles for generative/ random triggers and CVs. Do you think this module is maybe something that would make marbles a bit redundant in a way? Just curious your thoughts. I mean I know they are definitely different but in a way they cover similar ground and the Neo seems to have the edge with being able to record your own CV and trigger patterns

Great question: @@andrewnancarrow I had a Marbles when I first started in Eurorack (it's one of those classics we all need to own at least once). It's a great module, no doubt about it, but I got frustrated with it after a while. A little 'too' random for me. I think NEO is a fantastic modulation source that can do a lot of similar things, but it's not *exactly* the same. Marbles generats randomness in triggers and CV, and while NEO has stepped random LFOs it doesn't generate random triggers (like the t1, t2, t3 outputs on Marbles). Of course given it's modular you can approximate Marbles triggers using envelope modes LFOs triggered from another LFO on NEO. Not sure if that helps though! Being able to record CV and triggers is a fantastic performance feature IMHO

Thanks for the reply. I kind of feel like I get what you are saying about Marbles. And I feel that Neo is probably going to be a lot more interesting. I do already have a couple O_C’s so I think with all that Turing machine capability plus all the cool things I could do with Neo, maybe I could bypass Marbles
@andrewnancarrow
@andrewnancarrow 9 ай бұрын
I think actually the main thing I was interested in with marbles isn’t as much the random but the more curated t1,t2,t3 drum patterns (red mode) that are weighted differently based on the bias settings. Seems like Neo kind of has that
