Bata Ketu is an important collaboration between Micheal Spiro and Mark Lamson. It takes the Yoruban religious traditions of Cuba and Brazil and compares the same song for the Orishas as sung by these two traditions side by side. Due to the sheer numbers needed to perform the piece we were lucky Kata Ketu was presented as part of the Yerba Buena Gardens Festival in August 2013. Kata Ketu also incorporates dancers in the guise of the Orishas. LP endorser Jorge Alabe sings in Portuguese and Michael Spiro in Spanish. Thank you Rosangela Silvestre - dancer. LP endorsers Carol Steele, Mark Lamson and Jorge Alabe all performed at the event. Yerba Buena Gardens Festival www.ybgf.org is sponsored by Latin Percussion and presents over 100 FREE outdoor events in San Francisco's Yerba Buena Gardens. Thanks to Linda Lucero (YBGF), Dennis Broughton (California Brazil Camp), Michael Spiro and Mark Lamson. Video by Arturo Riera MisterLatinJazz for Latin Percussion. All rights reserved 2013.
