Thank you for your replies and wanted to let you know we have now succeeded with your recipe. My husband has taken these on board and I’m not allowed anywhere near them. I’m laughing because he has now bought a dehumidifier and a humidity tester, please don’t advise anything else as he will buy it. 😂😂😂😂seriously they smell divine and so pleased with the final result. Best bath bomb recipe Thank you for sharing

I am so glad to hear that Margaret and congratulations! I had to laugh when I read about your husband buying the dehumidifier (it will definitely help though!) On a side note, may I recommend that he purchases a years supply of chocolate but sends it over to my address for "safe storage"! Ha ha

Hi there I very much enjoyed your video. I made your recipe tonight and I was not as successful as others. My mixture was extremely wet even though I’m working with a dehumidifier and my humidity level is 42%. I have the same 3-D mold that you were using except my husband 3-D printed it. I used a 2 1/2 inch mold to get almost 180 g because less than that wasn’t forming a full ball or bomb. They are super wet and super heavy and I will be patient and wait a full three days before testing them to see if they float spin and fizz. Fingers crossed:-)😊

@@charswabe9529 unfortunately no I didn’t. I gave it four tries and moved on with another recipe. I haven’t managed to get a floating/spinning bath bomb in these few months that I’ve been trying. I just run into one issue after another, even after multiple tries.

Gorgeous bath bomb! I wanted to ask what humidity level you used on your humidifier, l live in Scotland and have the same issues with humidity! 🙈 I've also been trying to source palm free slsa with no luck and wasn't sure about the polysorbate 80 as I want to keep chemical additives to a minimum. Does the sci power work as an emulsifying agent and mix the oils and colour into the water well?

Thank you from Australia for sharing your recipe What binds the bombs together mine don’t stay together in the middle or they crumble?
@TheSussexHandmadeSoapCompany
@TheSussexHandmadeSoapCompany 3 жыл бұрын
Hello, In our recipe it is the water that is the binder. Being in Australia, you will have a very different climate to us though, so you may find that another binder works better for you. Basically, you have 3 common choice for binders: water, Isopropyl alcohol or witch Hazel. We experimented with all 3 and water worked best for us, but that may not be the same for you.

This is gorgeous! Odd question- even very gentle surfactants freak my skin out. If I remove the SCI powder, will it have any adverse effect beyond not making bubbles?
@TheSussexHandmadeSoapCompany
@TheSussexHandmadeSoapCompany 3 жыл бұрын
If you are removing the SCI then (assuming you are not palm free) if your recipe contains some form of oil, I would recommend adding some polysorbate 80 or a palm free alternative (I believe Red Turkey Oil is a recommended palm free alternative). The reason for this is that without something that will emulsify any oils in the recipe you may end up with oil floating on top of the bath water or a very slippery bath tub. You may also need to play around with the ratios of the other ingredients as the mix may end up being a little too wet, but that is something that can be played about with to rectify! It is certainly possible to remove the SCI powder if you make a few recipe tweaks :-)

Hi Shana, We use Soaposh for our bath bomb dyes and we use Resin8 or our micas. We use Resin8 for our micas as they have a transparant, easy to understand statement detailing where their mica's are sourced from (majority in the EU) and confirming no child labour is used in their sourcing, which is so very important to us.

Question what is the difference between SLSA and SCI powder ? My granddaughter (12) is about to start her bath bomb making process and I am buying her all the things she needs so want to get the right things for her. And any advice for a 12year old starting out she all ready makes CP soaps and soy candles. We are located in New Zealand. Please and thank you.
@TheSussexHandmadeSoapCompany
@TheSussexHandmadeSoapCompany 3 жыл бұрын
Hello, apart from what I mention in our video (our SCI is palm free whereas we couldn't find palm free SLSA), there are a couple of slight differences. SCI is even more gentle on the skin than SLSA so it is a good option to try for sensitive skin. From research we have done, it seems that with SCI the bubbles won't last for quite as long as they would with SLSA and also, you do need to use more SCI in a recipe that you would SLSA. They are both surfactants and will create bubbles and they both come as a very fine powder (SCI can also be bought as "noodles" but you wouldn't want them for bath bombs) so you will want to add a mask to your shopping list as it is not nice stuff to breathe in! With regards to advice for her, all I can say is have fun experimenting! Don't give up if they don't work right away - they most probably won't! You will need to practice and tweak your recipe to get one that works for you, but it will be worth it in the end! Learning at a young age means that when you get a little older you will already have loads of experience and a skill that you could turn into a business when you are older (if you wish to) or just keep as a fun and interesting hobby! Good luck!

@TheSussexHandmadeSoapCompany
@TheSussexHandmadeSoapCompany 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Margaret, probably not! Bath bomb recipes can be tricky as there are so many other factors that can affect the mix. Things like humidity when making play a huge part so it may be that the recipe that works well for us in our area isn't suited to the area in which you live. You could try reducing the water or substituting it for a little rubbing alcohol to create a drier mix and see if that helps at all.

Why are you weighing your bath bombs like that? It’s so messy. Just put the bowl of mix on the scale and zero it out. Then grab enough mix to get negative -150 or whatever weight you want and add to your mold. It’s a cleaner process.
