A wee gem of a film. Great production and narration. As another local and hillwalker, I too have been rediscovering all these places all over again during the restrictions. Great video, I enjoyed this and will recommend :)

1:39: 160 years? The Gala Braes standing stone (there are actually two menhirs visible in the field, but one-most likely moved from its original position-is now broken near the base) is Late Neolithic/EBA so has been there for at least 4500 years. The ridge on which they are located is probably a undisturbed prehistoric burial complex and as such, the site is a scheduled ancient monument.
@ScottishMountainGoat2 жыл бұрын
Hi Monty. At *least* 160 years. This was the earliest date I could 100 prove the stone was there as it was marked on early OS maps. I'd love if you could share some of your sources so I can be more accurate in future. Thanks! Kris.
@MontyCantsin52 жыл бұрын
@@ScottishMountainGoat: If you search for the site on the HES website you will find information relating to the scheduling (1995; updated in 2021) of the monument. There is no reason to doubt the Late Neo/EBA date given the finds made in association with the stones and other prehistoric structures nearby such as Raven Craig Cairn.

Great video! I ran a similar route recently during lockdown however from Livingston, up a long the road from the site of the old Bangour General Hospital to Ravencraig where I too found the shrine to "Troll" before heading up to Witchcraig via the Knock and Cairnpapple and on a subsequent run I made it to Cockleroy too! This video brought back all the memories of these runs!

Hey Kris, another great video. The Bathgate Tourist Board should be beating a path to your door on the back of this wee gem. Hoping to get out myself next month, but we will see. Keep up the great work buddy. Douglas :-)
@ScottishMountainGoat4 жыл бұрын
Hey Douglas! How have you been? Haha I dunno about that! Nice, you got anywhere in particular planned? I'm kinda avoiding the munros a bit at the moment due to how busy they look. Hopefully after a couple weeks it'll calm down a bit. Cheers, Kris.
@DouglasGilgallon4 жыл бұрын
Hi Chris, potentially I am going out to climb a Munro next month called the Saddle, in memory of a climbing friend who sadly passed away several months ago. I suspect it’s going to be a busy day as she was well known within many hillwalking groups and loved, so a good many people will be going to pay respects to her. Douglas.

Another beautifully shot and narrated video of my local hills. There certainly are some great views to be had on a clear day. My map calls the hills immediately to the south of Linlithgow the "Riccarton Hills" - the Bathgate Hills are shown further again to the south.
@ScottishMountainGoat3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Neil! Mines show the same regarding the Bathgate hills but shows the Riccarton hills as the area east of Beecraigs. There are a couple of oddities I've found on the ordinance survey maps of the area so I'm not sure if I trust them completely. Thanks for watching!

I always try to get up the Bathgate Hills when I return home. I must get up Cockleroy as I have never done it. I am sure there are lots of locals who have never ventured up to this natural paradise.

Good to see my home town looking so braw in these great shots. Also I’m sure the stone memorial at Ravenscraig was made in honour of a local punk named “Troup” and that’s why the skull has the big mohawk. Cheers for the video 👍🏼 what video editing software do you use ?
