Hi Roger Just a suggestion if you can I was just about to finish a bathroom today, during installing clips for the water pipe I drilled in to a radiator hole , which was Buried into the wall, unfortunately What metal detector do you suggest me? Thanks

@skillbuilder You can see the tiles on the wall about 500m behind the front of the stud work. Is there a reason not to take the room right back to the actual wall?
@SkillBuilder Жыл бұрын
The pre wall houses the soil pipe, w.c. cistern and waste pipes as well as all the supplies. If you had to box that lot in it would be a mess. You lose a bit of space (200mm) but the clean lines make the bathroom look bigger. It is a shift in thinking but once you have made it the results are well worth it.
@magicmanalex4 жыл бұрын
What size timbers are you using for your stud work? I’m waiting to order my Abacus parts. Are they all one standard size or you using different size timbers for sole plate / noggins etc.

Skill Builder I'll try using- I've been using abacus for years but moved away from them - maybe I'll start going back to them! I used to spec the recess's but I found tilers hated them as they couldn't match up groutlines / distances!! Look forward to this series!

Hi Roger, I am installing the 820 WC frame next to the 1180 basin frame and next to this is the towel radiator. The wc frame is by the external wall. there is a 360 height difference between the wc and basin frame and I plan to fix the hot and cold manifolds above the WC frame. The question is what material should I use to create a durable hinged door for access that looks good and will not absorb steam and warp? In your video you cut a walnut shelf for manifold access but wouldn't the cut side of the exposed MDF absorb moisture? Many thanks for your help in advance

Thinking of studding out my bathroom, how far forward have you studded the wall from the back wal?
@SkillBuilder4 жыл бұрын
I usually build to 200 mm from the face to the wall but you can build it much close if you use the slimline cistern and have a soil pipe outside.
@starman79822 жыл бұрын
Hello Roger, I've got the abacus system, and just like you demonstrate in this video that the system in on top of some plywood which is sitting on top of the 2x3 stud timber, but it's the leg of the abacus system much wider and as such would be unable to screw all three holes of the system into the 2x3 timber? How did you solve this?
@SkillBuilder2 жыл бұрын
You don't need all three holes, they give you three but one in each foot is enough. I usually put a block of wood behind the stud but you don't need it.
@Missmimiology2 жыл бұрын
What's the standard width for a stud wall which holds sink plumbing and toilet waste pipe? I've been told everything from 150mm, 200mm and 240mm?!... This chap says 8 inches which equates 203.2mm is that correct? Does that include plaster board and tiles? We need to know before ordering our furniture, thank you x
@SkillBuilder2 жыл бұрын
The space behind is usually anything over 110mm but to the front of the frame I go for 225mm which gives you a nice space for the soil pipe but if the soil pipe is going straight out through the wall you can do less. A slimline cistern is 90mm so consider a 100mm stud work plus the tile backer board and tiles so say 125mm finished front of pre wall from the structural wall.
@Missmimiology2 жыл бұрын
@@SkillBuilder Hi thank you for replying so quickly! So in total you would say 225mm for the entire depth of the wall including backer board, tiles and a slimline cistern? What size soil pipe would we need to use for this scenario? Our soil pipes needs to go along, left and then down. Thank you x
@Missmimiology2 жыл бұрын
@@SkillBuilder .... Or are you saying that there are two options; 225mm total width from original wall to front of new stud wall including tiles AND/ OR a smaller option of 125mm from original wall to front of new stud wall including tiles too? How will we know which once we need? Obviously we would like the new stud wall to be a slim as possible to maximise space. Thank you :)
@envoycdx2 жыл бұрын
